S.H.E member Ella Chen’s fans were pushing and shoving during her Are You Normal concert held in Taipei yesterday (June 8), causing some of them to faint due to suffocation and had to be taken to the hospital.
When one of the attendees posted about the matter online, it blew out of proportion when netizens began to blame Ella and her record company HIM International Music for not paying attention and not stopping the concert when the incident happened. They also claimed the organisers had ignored injured fans after the concert ended.
HIM International Music refuted the complaints and explained that the netizens were exaggerating about the hospitalisation because one of the fans had already been unwell and the staff stationed nearby helped the fan to a seat at the rear of the venue to finish watching the concert.
Additionally, Ella took the blame for the matter in her Facebook post: “Originally, the record company wanted me to come on stage by a path from the side, but because I wanted to be able to reach out and touch you guys, I chose to come on stage via a path in the middle. I didn’t know that there would be so many of you, resulting in the unfortunate incident.”
Ella felt guilty and admitted, “It’s hard not to feel sad. I’m sorry, I wanted this to be fun and enjoyable time for everyone.”
The singer made a pun with her tour name, saying the incident happened because she was too “abnormal”. She also expressed her hopes for everyone to be okay and stated that they will review the negligence on their part.
