The long-running Taiwanese talk show Here Comes Kangxi filmed its last episode yesterday, and the special guests were revealed to be Chinese actress Fan Bingbing and her beau, Chinese actor Li Chen, in the couple’s first joint appearance in Taiwan.
Bingbing was widely rumoured to be scheduled as a guest on one of the last episodes of the talk show, after hosts Dee Hsu and Kevin Tsai mentioned it had always been their dream to invite the Chinese A-lister on the show.
The actress’s appearance reportedly cost NT$100,000 (approximately S$4,000). But her manager denied this, saying the fee was only a five-figure sum. He added that Bingbing had paid for her own airfare to Taiwan and hair and makeup, as a token of friendship.
In the studio to record the last episode of the 12-year-old talk show, Dee and Kevin broke down when they were asked to say goodbye to their loyal audience. “There were many times I wanted to quit this programme,” Dee said. “But my family and friends would encourage me to stay, telling me they loved this show.”
Kevin said, “Seeing the scratch marks on the studio floor, the shabby backdrops, the broken automatic door - these details have become a beautiful memory. There will be some regret that never goes away but I suppose that’s just part of life.”
On their joint resignation from Here Comes Kangxi in October, Kevin said at first he thought Dee would stay on and didn't’ expect her to quit too. Dee said, “Kevin will always have a special place in my heart. After my husband and my family, I think he’s the man I love the most.”
Kevin replied, “Then I have a higher regard for you, because I don’t have a wife, so you’re the woman I love the most.”
The last episode of Here Comes Kangxi will air on January 7 next year.
