Taiwanese Mandopop star Jay Chou’s daughter Hathaway has made an appearance in the music video of his new song “Lover From The Past”.
The song, which references an old Chinese saying that all daughters were their fathers’ lovers in their past lives, was composed for the 10-month-old.
The music video for the song was released on Sunday, with an additional caption from Jay that read, “There’s a girl named Hathaway, who played a little melody on her piano when she was 4 months old. I’m extremely proud of her, for she’s my daughter.”
The music video included snippets of Jay’s wedding, his model-actress wife Hannah Quinlivan, as well as illustrations that imagined how Hathaway would be as she grew older, from studying, to playing the piano before finally getting married.
At the end, a little snippet of baby Hathaway playing her piano was shown, with her facial features and adorable posture attracting the attention of fans, and becoming one of the highlights of the video.
It was also revealed that the melody of the song was inspired by Hathaway, when she was tinkering about with her toy piano. Jay, who had heard Hathaway playing on her piano, then turned the melody into a tune, which formed the base of “Lover From The Past”.
After hearing the song, netizens left comments saying that they were touched by the song, and praised Hathaway and Jay for being able to come up with a melody even when Hathaway was only playing around on the piano.
“It’s really not easy to be able to work together to come up with a tune like that, only Jay can manage something like this,” read one comment.
