The Best Programme Host (Variety, Info-Ed & Infotainment) win at last night’s Star Awards could not have come at a better time for Lee Teng. The 31-year-old, who clinched the award for his work on reality TV show Love on The Plate 3, celebrates his tenth year in showbiz this year.
When speaking with the media backstage, the Taiwanese-born host revealed that he felt he stood a chance of winning this year but didn’t think too much about it as he was focusing his attention on the awards ceremony, which he was hosting for the first time.
Furthermore, he was up against some stiff competition and expected veteran host Quan Yi Fong or fellow Left Profile artiste Pornsak, who had won Best Info-Ed Programme Host and Best Variety Show Host respectively last year, to clinch the award.
“Mark Lee kept joking that he would quit showbiz if I didn’t win," said Lee Teng. "I recorded it down and will post it online later. Remember to look out for it."
Lee Teng made his showbiz debut after coming in second in talent show SuperHost in 2005 and has hosted numerous TV shows over the decade. Despite multiple nominations over the past seven years, he had only won a hosting award once - Best Info-Ed Programme Host in 2012 - so this award, he said, was an affirmation of him as a host.
"Previously many of the programmes that I hosted were shot in the studio but this was outdoors so I feel at some level, I learned a lot. Also the producers had very high expectations of me and gave me a lot of encouragement, which helped me improve so I am very thankful to them for that.”
So how will he be celebrating his win? “I am going get a good rest because I feel rest is very important. Since hosting Body SOS, I have been taking good care of my health. Don’t think that I am only in my 30s but I lead a very routine life – it is best to sleep early and rise early. Furthermore I have to host [Star Awards] Part 2 next week so I need to be in good shape,” said Lee Teng.
