Where did the time go? It feels like just yesterday when Cheryl Wee was gushing about welcoming her baby boy into the world (in fact, it doesn’t feel like that long ago when she announced her pregnancy or married architect Roy Fong either), and last Sunday (July 29), the actress-entrepreneur celebrated her son’s 100th day.

In an Instagram post documenting the party, the 31-year-old finally revealed “Baby M’s” name and a clear shot of his face for the first time, and all we can say is that little Marc Fong has the squishiest cheeks that make us want to reach into our computer screens and squeeze for days.

The party, as Cheryl shared with us over the phone, was held at the Grand Hyatt and attended by an estimated 350 to 400 guests, largely thanks to her well-connected mum, hair and beauty magnate Jean Yip. “She has so many friends and most of them are grandparents who brought their kids and grandkids, so it became like a three-generation thing,” she said.

Also present were a number of fellow celebrities, including Zoe Tay (who came with her husband and their three boys), Zheng Ge Ping (plus Tay Ying and Calvert Tay), Vincent Ng (her shifu from her martial arts-learning days), Felicia Chin (whom she got close to while working together in The Journey: Our Homeland), Nat Ho (who was like a big brother to her during their stint in Taiwan) and Nadiah m Din (a good friend and Mata Mata co-star who was also the emcee for her wedding).

To everyone’s amazement and delight, baby Marc didn’t seem to be frightened by the massive crowd and all the inevitable attention. “I don’t know if it’s because he’s still too young, or maybe because when I was pregnant with him, the house was always so vibrant and had lots of parties, so he’s probably used to all the noise and people going around,” she said.

“He catnapped every 10 to 15 minutes, but most of the time he was just staring at everything and taking it all in,” she continued. “He didn’t cry and a lot of people were surprised by him! I’m really thankful he’s such an easy baby.”

Read on for more as Cheryl tells us why she named her son Marc, if she has plans to act again, and why she wants to have a second child as soon as possible.

Tell us the story behind your son’s name, Marc.
My period has been so irregular that my gynaecologist told me not to stress out about planning for kids and to let things happen naturally, so we were really lucky that we managed to conceive so fast. Since Roy and I are both Catholics, we wanted to show our gratitude to God for this miracle and name him after a saint, and we chose St. Mark because April 25 (my birthday, the day before Marc was born) is his feast day.

Does his Chinese name have any special meaning as well?
We gave him the Chinese name Feng Jun Xiang (the “Xiang” is from fei xiang, meaning “fly”) because we want him to be a person who will soar high and be an explorer who’s curious to learn things. Even the theme of his 100th day party coincided with the wallpaper in his room, which has hot air balloons. (Laughs)

How has parenthood been for you and your husband so far?
It’s been really, really, really good. Parenthood has made us into this tag team that’s brought us closer because we split the work: when I’m really tired or sick, he will take over the night feeds, and if I know he has an important meeting the next morning, I will do it.

Has motherhood changed you in any way?
I feel that having a kid makes you want to learn how to be a better person and see things from a different – sometimes kinder - perspective. I have so much more love inside me that I want to give not just to my baby, but to others as well.

How often do you have to be away from Marc? Do you get separation anxiety?
I actually went back to work [Ed’s note: she runs her own wellness centre] on the 40th day postnatal and I’m usually out from 10am to 5pm. I wouldn’t say I have separation anxiety but by afternoon, I really want to come home to see Marc because I really miss him… [pauses] See, Roy’s in the background making noise and asking me why I’m not missing my husband.

But yes, back to the question. Thankfully, I really enjoy my work (it’s also my second baby) and that was a bit of a problem for me because I want to spend more time with Marc, but at the same time, I have to be really focused on my business. It was a struggle but I spoke to Roy about it and he said we have to be really productive and efficient with our time: when we’re at work, we have to aim to finish everything, and the moment we come home, we have to dedicate all our quality time to our son.

Are there any plans to take on product endorsements with Marc?
I honestly haven’t thought about that yet, but we’ll see – if a product that’s good or we really like comes along, we would definitely think about it, but for the time being, I’m not a fan of exposing his face all over the public.

Do you have plans to act again, or is your focus completely on baby and business for now?
Acting again? Yes, definitely a very big yes. I really miss acting and it will always be a part of me, but for now, I have to be selective and know my priorities. Family and work come first, and acting is a hobby. But I really hope that one day I can work with Toggle, that’s something I’ve been craving for. [Ed’s note: noted!]

Are you already thinking about giving Marc a sibling?
We knew all along that we want to have a few kids, and we hope the first and second can be close in age because my sister and I are only 18 months apart and we’re pretty close. Secondly, Marc is the first grandson in both families, so I have this fear that his grandparents are going to spoil him, and I am dead set against spoiling children – especially boys – so I thought maybe if we quickly have another one, the attention would at least be divided among them. (laughs) And also, I actually really miss being pregnant, so yeah, we’re praying very hard that soon, we’ll have a sibling for Marc.
