It was déjà vu all over again when Joanne Peh, who is six months into her pregnancy, appeared at Dream Coder's press conference yesterday, wearing a black trapeze dress that showed off her womanly curves. Coincidentally, the actress was also "pregnant at the last press conference" she attended for C.L.I.F. 2 two years ago, the last drama series she did before stopping work to devote herself fully to motherhood.

Same baby belly but completely different working experiences. Filming for Dream Coder commenced when the 35-year-old actress was in her first trimester and, like any other pregnant woman, she experienced body changes as the baby grew bigger in size day by day. The toll pregnancy took on Joanne's figure only meant one thing: she had problems fitting into the outfits from her character's wardrobe.

Her growing baby belly eventually became the 'bump' of jokes when she had problems wearing her pants, said Joanne. "I couldn’t even button up one of my pants towards the last few days of filming and I thought that was rather funny because Romeo had to deliberately block my belly in some scenes because my bottoms were actually unbuttoned," she shared.

The soon-to-be mother-of-two also expressed her appreciation towards her co-actors who gave her first dibs to the sleeping pod in their drama set to ensure that she had sufficient rest. Romeo Tan, who plays Joanne's younger brother in the technology-centric drama, poked fun at his co-star and jokingly explained that they did it out of deference because she's the Ah Jie

Apart from having to deal with (almost) wardrobe malfunctions, Joanne experienced occasional dizzy spells and often felt queasy during dinner time. She even fell sick for two weeks when she caught a viral flu bug from the cast.

Still, she was an absolute trooper and singlehandedly took care of her daughter, only known as Baby Qi, after work and after the nanny has left for the day. When filming for Dream Coder wrapped, she had no time to sit back and relax as she had her hands full with unpacking for their new home, which they moved into last December, as her husband Qi Yuwu had to fly back to China for work.

“It was pretty tiring when we were in the midst of moving, but we had to move to a bigger place since we are going to have one more family member soon," she explained.

Thankfully, Yuwu will be coming home soon to accompany his wife, just in time to welcome the arrival of their second child who is due to arrive in end April.

The 40 year-old actor, whose last local TV project was The Dream Makers 2, will also be taking up more Mediacorp projects when he is back, something the actress is absolutely thrilled about.

Like any other ordinary fangirl, her face lit up at the mention of him and she broke into a wide smile, gushing, “My husband is my idol!”

With Ah Wu back on the little red dot, can we expect to see them working together on TV again (the couple most recent onscreen projects are C.L.I.F 2 and SG50 movie, 1965)? “I hope so! I don’t know about him, but I really like working with him, although I haven’t really thought about who would take care of Baby Qi then."

Read on as Joanne's co-stars Desmond Tan and Romeo Tan share with us the "perils" of working with a pregnant actress.

He plays a doting younger brother (Zhenlong) to Joanne's character, Ya Yun, who has to deal with a failed marriage after her husband cheats and abandons her, in reel life. In real life, he also took good care of the actress and would specially make a detour to buy her favourite snacks before heading to work.

“I know she loves those snacks so I went to buy some for her because I love them too. I don’t think that a pregnant lady should snack so much, but I think she knows her limit right?” he said with a chuckle.

Desmond Tan shared that he had never had so much close contact with an expectant mother before and that romancing Joanne in Dream Coder actually satisfied his curiousity about pregnancy.

The actor had always felt that pregnancy was an "amazing phenomenon," but never had the chance to interact much with a pregnant lady.

“I even told Joanne to tell me when her baby is kicking because I saw videos online and it looks really weird, but her baby was really well behaved and didn’t kick much during filming," he quipped.

Is Aloysius Pang thinking of quitting showbiz?

Aloysius Pang is known for his contemplative posts and musings about life, so when he took to Instagram to post a picture about chess pieces and chess players - on the very same day the Star Awards 2017 nomination list was released, some saw it as a post made by the actor to express his disappointment for failing to make the cut.

But the 26-year-old clarified in his interview with Toggle that he had “never expected to be nominated," and assured that he wasn’t disappointed as he “didn’t do very well last year”.

Given his recent venture into directing and script-writing for his short film Smile, I’m Safe, is Aloy thinking of making a career switch and preparing to go behind the scenes full time?

“I won’t deny that film-making might be my back-up plan," he replied honestly, "But it’s just a new interest that I’m investing in right now."

Aloy also shared that he will not be asking his fans to vote for him to get the Top 10 Most Popular Male Artistes award this year because he received feedback from parents of fans who complained that their kids spent a bomb voting for them last year.

“I’d feel really bad even if I received the award”, he added.

As she was juggling between filming two dramas at once, 118 2 and Dream Coder, Carrie Wong would always be spotted snoozing at the sleeping pod on location as she “barely had time to sleep."
