Would you rather time-travel back to 1918 (ala Chen Han Wei’s character Lian Da Xi in Blessings 2), or travel to 2118? While Lian Da Xi (and Han Wei), suffered a fair bit of troubles and hardships in his attempt to travel back to the past to rectify a mistake made on his part, we gave the cast of Blessings 2 an easier way of travelling, by doing things the hypothetical way.

We all wish we had a chance to turn back time, to fix whatever mistakes we may have made in the past, and our celebrities are not exempted from this. Read on for more from the cast members of the drama, from Rebecca's uh, relationship blunders, to Zhang Yao Dong's business misstep.

If you could choose an era to time travel to, which era would it be?
[I’d travel] to the second world war period, people lived very badly then, so I want to be able to change what happened then, or at the very least, bring some supplies and resources over to alleviate their suffering.

If you could bring one thing from the present back with you to 1918, what would it be?
A water filtration device, they’ve very advanced now, and they use them over in Africa now, or maybe a bread maker.

Are there any mistakes you’ve made in the past that you wish you could rectify?
I want to travel back to 2008, a business that I invested in then failed, and I want to go back to that time to prevent that from happening. It was a roast meat eatery (Restoran Selayang) that I had opened together with [local actor] Terence Cao and two other investors, and the whole thing happened because of financial mismanagement. At first, my relationship with Terence was strained because of that, and we didn’t speak for around four years.

However, it was not solely because of the business. I was experiencing a slump in my career then, so I went to Beijing for work, and I rarely came back to Singapore during that period. Of course, everything’s ok between us now. After all, not all businesses will succeed.

Was there a time when you felt as if your ancestor had blessed you?
My entire life, my whole career! I’m not really “born” with an appearance or personality that is suited for an actress. There are tons of other people out there who are more slender and attractive than me. Work-wise, I feel like there are still a lot of things that I can improve and build upon.

If you could choose an era to time travel to, which era would it be?
I’d prefer to stay in the present, it’s the safest, and there’s air conditioning as well. This era is the best for females, our ancestors had to fight for their rights, they could only stay at home to tend to the house and take care of the family, and they couldn’t pursue their dreams. We now have the rights to fight for what we wan, and can have our own way of thinking. If I really have to choose an era, I’d like to go to my parent’s university days, the 70s. My dad says that those were my mum’s best days, so I want to go back to then to see for myself.

If you could bring one thing from the present back with you to 1918, what would it be?
My handphone. It’s not to communicate with people from my era, but to capture the memories of those who lived in 1918. While preparing to film for Blessings 2, I realised that it was very hard for me to do my homework, there’s not a lot of materials that I could refer to. That era had a lot of pretty things, that took a lot of time and effort to do, that I want to capture and record down. An example would be my hair, which took two hours to do, even with today’s styling tools, which are more advanced than those available in the 1918s.

Would you rather travel to 1918 or 2118?
I’d like to travel back to the past, for a second chance to re-live my life. If I travel to the future, it’ll be like living in fast-forward, and I’d miss a lot of things that would  happen.

Are there any mistakes you’ve made in the past that you wish you could rectify?
My ex-boyfriends, they were all mistakes (laughs). (Ed's note: Rebecca once told us about how she was dumped three times out of the four relationships she's had) [On a serious note], I’d probably want to not argue so much with my parents, and be more obedient.

Was there a time when you felt as if your ancestor had blessed you?
[I feel like I’ve been blessed] all along. When I was younger, I had pretty severe asthma, so to be able to live till now can be considered a blessing of sorts, as I was always in and out of the hospital. When I was 22, after a few modelling gigs in Singapore, I went to Thailand and Hong Kong to work, and I didn’t meet with any dangers, so in that period of time, I was blessed as well, be it from my ancestors or the angels. I used to enjoy backpacking solo as well, and I didn’t run into any trouble, so that was pretty blessed as well.

If you could choose an era to time travel to, which era would it be?
I wouldn’t go to a particularly ancient era, the 70s is fine for me, because there was the hippy movement then. I want to go there to see how they lived, it feels like it’ll be a little more carefree as compared to the present.

Would you rather travel to 1918 or 2118?
I guess I’m more interested in travelling to the future, to see what kind of technology will be available in the future. I’m not so keen about what I’d become [in the future], because in the end, we’re all heading to the same destination, which is heaven. But, I’m interested to see how the world will progress, and how the social system will be in the future.

If you could bring one thing from the present back with you to 1918, what would it be?
It’ll be easy to say [my] hand phone, but there’s no internet, so it’ll be pretty useless. I’d say something that I’d find over here but wouldn’t be in the 1918s.

I’d bring lots of batteries and a torch then, because it’ll be dark at night and you can’t move about easily. So it’ll be easier for me to finish my stuff and move about then, and at least with the batteries, it’ll last for a couple of years.

Are there any mistakes you’ve made in the past that you wish you could rectify?
When Michael Jackson was alive, he came to the national stadium once for a concert. I think it was in 2000, I was only in my teens, so I wouldn’t have had money to go to his concert, but on hindsight, if I knew that he’d pass away in a couple of years, I’d have gone for his concert. I think this is my regret. There’s only a few artistes where I know all their songs really well, and Michael Jackson is one of them. He’s the King of Pop after all.

Was there a time when you felt as if your ancestor had blessed you?
To be able to be healthy,  I feel like that’s my ancestor’s blessings. Usually, I will offer incense to them, and pray for a smooth sailing work life and the health of my family members, so I think to be able to have these, without any major problems, is a very lucky thing.

If you could choose an era to time travel to, which era would it be?
My grandfather’s era. He made the journey from Fujian, China to Malaysia, and I want to see his ancestors and what they looked like. If I have the chance to go back to then, I want to be able to see what he looked like, and how they lived in China. I want to understand  why he decided to come over to Malaysia, it might because they wanted a better life for their children.

If you could bring one thing from the present back with you to 1918, what would it be?
My whole family, if they were able to time travel with me, to see my grandfather [I think it’d be] very, very, fun.

Was there a time when you felt as if your ancestor had blessed you?
My mum wasn’t in the best of health before this so I prayed to my ancestors for her health. She’s become healthier now, and I think that’s a blessing from my ancestors.

If you could choose an era to time travel to, which era would it be?
I want to travel to the future. You cannot change the past, but if you know what the future holds; you can start to prepare [for it] and control the outcome. Its better to know what will happen in the future compared to what happened in the past.

If you could bring one thing from the present back with you to 1918, what would it be?
My handphone. It’s a little nonsensical to bring it to the past, because there’s no signal there, but at least I can take pictures with it. There wouldn’t be a way for me to charge it, but at least I can use it for as long as the charge lasts. I’d also want to bring all my friends and family with me to the future, to see what the future holds together.

If you could choose an era to time travel to, which era would it be?
I kind of want to go back to ancient times, when they were fighting a war, maybe during the three kingdoms period. All males will like to have the chance to fight in a war once, so I want to go back to that era. Even though it’ll be easier to die then, its more thrilling and exciting.

If not, [I’d like to time travel] to the future, where technology has become more advanced.  I’d rather go to the future than the past, because I’m quite curious to see how the world will be like.

If you could bring one thing from the present back with you to 1918, what would it be?
My phone would be useless, because there’s no reception there. Maybe a history book, so I can study and know what happened back then.

Are there any mistakes you’ve made in the past that you wish you could rectify?
I want to go back to my secondary school and polytechnic days, because I didn’t think about what I wanted to do in the future. I had no dream, and it felt like I was wasting my time, living life aimlessly. If I had settled on a dream earlier, I could’ve have started chasing my dream already. I only joined the industry after the army, so I feel like that was pretty late.
