Happy Lunar New Year! Today marks the beginning of the reign of the Rooster in the zodiac cycle, which means it’s time once again for us to do a bit of just-for-fun fortune-telling (with the help of Feng Shui Master Hui Jie of Hui Master International Geomancy) for celebs whose birthdates fall under this sign.

So, who’s going to enjoy smooth-sailing seas in their career, who might risk running into a bit of poor financial luck, and who should be extra careful about their health? Read on for more.

Note: The artistes’ Eight Characters of Birth Time were not available for in-depth analysis. The following predictions are for reference purposes only and do not represent the views of Toggle.

Paige Chua

Birthdate: June 25, 1981

Last year was a good year for Paige in terms of exposure, with roles in numerous productions such as If Only I Could, The Gentlemen, Hero and Soul Reaper. Unfortunately, she walked home empty-handed after last year’s Star Awards despite being nominated in three categories – but hope is not lost: 2017 has been touted as a breakthrough year for her, with accolades (perhaps that elusive Best Supporting Actress trophy?) in her future.

And, if she wishes to climb even further up the showbiz ladder, she should consider venturing into the comedy genre. Immersing herself in a light-hearted role – as opposed to the emotionally heavy ones she’s been doing more of – will also help her relax, which in turn will be beneficial for her wellbeing. Other physical problems she should be wary of include dizziness, gastrointestinal problems and women’s health issues.

Will there also be a breakthrough for her relationship of over 13 years? Although the 35-year-old has previously stated that she will reject her boyfriend’s proposal, it turns out that based on her birthdate, Paige will have lots of luck in love and marriage. We’re keeping our fingers crossed for good news, then!

Chen Hanwei

Chen Hanwei

Birthdate: August 29, 1969

The veteran actor has been toiling for almost thirty years, but it looks like he won’t be able to slow down any time soon, as 2017 is set to be another year of hard work for him. And since the busy-ness will eventually take a toll on his health (especially on his bones and stomach), the 47-year-old should set aside ample time for some rest and relaxation, as well as to spend time with his family.

Hanwei is also advised not to be too picky with the projects he chooses, and to stay away from taking financial risks, such as the lottery and investments. It looks like 2017 will be a year of playing it safe for him, but then again, better safe than sorry, right?

JJ Lin

JJ Lin

Birthdate: March 27, 1981

Uh-oh, it appears that Singapore’s musical pride and joy might be in for some less-than-stellar luck this year (yikes! Could this be due to his fan’s recent suicide, or those [untrue] rumours of discord with Jam Hsiao?). Some unpleasant things he should look out for include lawsuits, bankruptcy, strained relationships, and poor lung and bronchial health. To ward off bad fortune, it is recommended for JJ to wear lots of green or arm himself with jade.

Things aren’t exactly looking smooth-sailing on the romance front for the Golden Melody Awards winner either, with many fruitless relationships potentially on the horizon. However, he could also get married at anytime, anywhere – but only time will tell if it’s to any of the countless ladies he has been linked to over the years. Jiayou, JJ!

Huang Biren

Birthdate: March 7, 1969

Since her return from a seven-year hiatus in 2014’s Three Wishes, the veteran actress continued to star in several more well-received Channel 8 blockbusters, including The Dream Makers 2, Tiger Mum and Fire Up. In the year of the Rooster, the 47-year-old will continue enjoying many good opportunities, a rise in popularity and good financial luck in general. There also seems to be a chance for her to strike big in the lottery in August or September – huat ah!

On the not-so-bright side, the mother-of-three has a few health concerns she should be aware of, specifically issues with her lungs, skin and large intestines.

Selina Jen

Selina Jen

Birthdate: October 31, 1981

2016 was a bittersweet year for the S.H.E member: while she and her groupmates Hebe Tien and Elle Chen celebrated the group’s 15th anniversary in September, her five-year marriage to Richard Chang ended in divorce, which she candidly announced on her Facebook page in March.

Although there is a chance for her to meet an older man (and potential new suitor?) this year, Selina is advised to take advantage of a busy 2017 and focus on her career for now, as well as consider investing as the returns will be profitable. Health-wise, the 35-year-old should take special care of her lungs, bronchus, skin and the wounds from her horrifying accident in 2010, lest more problems crop up in the new year.

Ella Chen

Birthdate: June 18, 1981

A baby boy won’t be the only thing keeping the spunky mum-to-be busy this year, as she is predicted to have a packed schedule, both individually and with her band S.H.E. As such, the 35-year-old should take advantage of the situation and explore as many career opportunities as possible. Being a new mother could also open up doors to new endorsement deals for the singer, which equals to good fortune, financially.

On the other hand, Ella should also be careful not to neglect her vulnerable health – with plenty of rest and exercise to keep her from falling ill – or her marriage: there are fears that her relationship with hubby Alvin Lai might be plagued by a third party in the future, so remember to keep the mister on a tight leash (and plenty of sparks in the bedroom), Ella!

Jun Ji Hyun

Birthdate: October 30, 1981

The 35-year-old first established herself as one of South Korea’s top actresses in the early 2000s with My Sassy Girl, but experienced a massive career resurgence once again with her TV comeback in 2014’s My Love from the Star. Her triumphant streak continued with Legend of the Blue Sea, and it looks like it won’t be dying down any time soon – could we be hearing news of another great project?

Also potentially in the cards is baby number two, following the birth of her son in February last year, and continued marital bliss with her banker hubby Choi Joon Hyuk. To add on to the great news, her already impressive wealth is set to grow even more, and her health seems to generally be in the clear as well, with just gastrointestinal issues to look out for. Sigh, some people really have all the luck…

Lin Peifen

Birthdate: September 14, 1981

Becoming a mother in 2015 did not stop the YES 933 DJ from slowing down in her career, and she continued hosting many events and programmes, in addition to her regular radio gig. While she will continue to fare well at work in 2017, she may not have the best financial luck.

As the 35-year-old may be susceptible to coughs and colds, she is reminded to slow down and take a breather every now and then. But we trust that she’ll keep herself in tip-top condition in order to take care of her adorable little boy Luke.

Fan Bingbing

Things are looking great for Bingbing not just in her career, but also her love life and finances as well: her popularity will continue to soar, she will flourish at work and her wealth will increase tenfold. There is also a chance for her to win more awards this year, after missing out on Best Actress at the 2016 Golden Horse Awards.

While the signs seem to point at the 35-year-old settling down with her actor beau Li Chen very soon, wedding bells may not ring for the celebrity couple until next year, 2019 or 2021. Whenever that may be, their compatible dates of birth show that he is her Mr. Right. But until the big day comes, Bingbing should be wary of bone problems and women’s diseases, and steer clear of drinking cold beverages for optimal health.

Faye Wong

Birthdate: August 8, 1969

The 47-year-old diva’s comeback concert last December was a highly-anticipated one (with front-row tickets even being sold for as much as S$40,000), but the high expectations were sadly unmet, with many concertgoers and livestream viewers lambasting her lacklustre performance. Perhaps this is why she may feel the need to do better and prove herself to others, leading to a very stressful year ahead (and, if she’s not careful, heart and cardiovascular problems).

Thankfully, luck could be kinder to her in the areas of money and love: she will do better financially compared to 2016, and there is a very high chance that she will tie the knot with boyfriend Nicholas Tse, whom she reunited with in 2014 after 11 years.

Hannah Quinlivan

Hannah Quinlivan

Birthdate: August 12, 1993

Even being Mrs. Jay Chou won’t be able to save Hannah from getting on the bad side of people, and the 23-year-old is advised to be delicate with all her relationships and try not to offend others. That said, she is foreseen to do well in her career, with lots of opportunities and favour in business ventures.

Family life also continues to bode well for the budding actress: the romance between her and her Mandopop king husband will continue to be as sweet as sugar, and there is an extremely high likelihood that they will successfully give their daughter Hathaway a younger baby brother (just like Jay wants!). However, Hannah should ideally keep her health – especially that of her eyes, lungs, intestines, kidneys, uterus and bones – in check before getting preggers again.

Annie Yi

Annie Yi

Birthdate: March, 4, 1969

There’s good news for the 47-year-old hot mama, who recently expressed her desire to expand her brood even after just giving birth to daughter Milly: there is a good chance of her conceiving again in the new year. Plus, her relationship with her younger actor husband Qin Hao will stay as sweet as ever (ah, perhaps that explains the high possibility of having baby no. 2).

When that happens, we’re sure Annie – who also has a 14-year-old son from her previous marriage to singer Harlem Yu – will have no trouble shedding the pregnancy pounds, just like she managed to do recently: with a Ba Zi that indicates a strong health-consciousness, as well as a knack for finding the best weight loss methods for herself, she’ll be able to get her old figure back without sacrificing her wellbeing.
