BTS has become the first k-pop artist to win an award at the Billboard Music Awards.

On May 21, BTS received the Top Social Artist award at the 2017 Billboard Music Awards, which was held at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.Not only was BTS the first k-pop artist to attend the Billboard Music Awards, but they also became the first k-pop artist to receive an award.

When accepting the award from actor Paul Logan and violinist Lindsey Stirling, BTS shared, "ARMY, our friend, thank you very much. We still cannot believe we are standing here on this stage at the Billboard Music Awards." They also added, "Most importantly, this award belongs to everyone around the world that shine the love and light on us by the millions."

They ended the acceptance speech by saying in Korean, "Really, we love you and thank you. We will become a better BTS."

Other artists in the Top Social Artist category included Justin Bieber, Selena Gomez, Ariana Grande and Shawn Mendes. The award category, which was added in 2011, had gone to Justin Bieber for the last 6 years and was awarded to a different artist for the first time this year.
