EXO’s Baekhyun was embroiled in controversy after an audio recording of his comments at a fan-signing event was uploaded online and part of his comments were translated without context.

According to reports, a fan who attended the event spoke to him about feeling depressed, and he wanted to give his fans words of encouragement in response. Part of his conversation was of him confessing that he “doesn’t understand why people suffer from depression or insomnia”, because he has not experienced it personally.

After which, he continued that those who feel down should try to surround themselves with positivity, naming himself as an example of such good vibes. However, only the first part of the conversation was translated, which led to misunderstandings among both the Korean and international public.

In response, he has since uploaded an apology on his Instagram account, in which he explained that he felt “worried” about the fans who mentioned about being depressed, and that he wanted to comfort them because of it.

However due to his “inability to express what’s on my mind”, he went on that he “regrets the words that I chose” and apologised to the fans and everyone who was hurt by his comments. He concluded his statement saying that he will be “the Baekhyun who will be even more careful with my words and actions”.

Fans have rallied behind Baekhyun, showing their support for him through various social networking platforms.
