Korean actors Song Joong Ki and Song Hye Kyo shocked many when reports of their divorce emerged earlier today. Following the announcement, speculation about the reason behind their split has dominated online platforms.

A blind item on a Korean community site reemerged, where a netizen claimed some months back that the pair would be filing for divorce because Song Hye Kyo was having an affair with 26-year-old actor Park Bo Gum.

This blind item was met with skepticism as Song Joong Ki and Park Bo Gum are close friends from the same agency, Blossom Entertainment.

However, other netizens pointed out that Song Hye Kyo, who turns 38 in November, has a history of dating her drama co-stars, such as Lee Byung Hun and Hyun Bin after starring alongside them in 2003 drama All In and 2008 series The World That They Live In respectively. Song Hye Kyo and Park Bo Gum were the leads in 2018’s Encounter.

In response to the speculation, a representative from Blossom Entertainment spoke to Korean news outlet Sports Chosun, and shared that the rumours of Park Bo Gum being the reason behind the Song-Song couple’s divorce are unfounded.

“It is unfortunate that his name is being brought up in [Song Joong Ki and Song Hye Kyo’s] divorce, and the agency will respond strongly [with legal action) against these groundless rumours,” the rep said.

In related news, an acquaintance of the couple claimed that while the pair had genuinely loved each other in the past, they drifted apart due to their personalities and respective busy schedules, which caused their marriage to break down.
