As fans, friends and family members of Kim Jonghyun grieve at his sudden passing, the 27-year-old’s final letter was made public by good friend ‘Nine9’ (or Jang Hee-yeon) from Korean rock band Dear Cloud this morning after discussions with his family.

The note hinted at the SHINee member’s troubled mental state and his struggles and pain. In Jonghyun’s final note, he wrote about “being broken from the inside” and spoke about being unable to overcome his battle with depression.

Jonghyun also wrote about the internal conflicts brewing within him as he struggled to come to terms with “being known to the world,” and said that it was impressive that he has “lasted this long” in the industry.

He ended off the note writing, “What else is there to say. Just say I worked hard,” and implored for people around him not to send him off “blaming” him, if they are unable to send him off with a smile.

The Korean singer was found unconscious in a rented apartment located in Seoul’s high-end Cheongdam-dong district at 6.30pm Korean time yesterday (Dec 18). The cause of Jonghyun’s death is reported to be from carbon monoxide poisoning as a coal briquette was found burning on a frying pan in the room.

According to the police, he was quickly rushed to a nearby university hospital, but it was too late.

Jonghyun’s sister first alerted the police of her brother’s intentions to commit suicide at 4.42pm, after she received a text from him saying, “It’s been really hard for me all this time, so please send me off well. Tell me that I lived a good life. This is my last greeting (to you).”

S.M. Entertainment has released a statement confirming the heartbreaking news. The company also revealed that a private funeral will be held with friends, family and colleagues, as per Jonghyun's family's wishes, and urged the public to refrain from spreading rumours and speculations.

A separate venue has been set up for fans to pay their final respects to Jonghyun at Asan Medical Center Funeral Hall.

Five-member boyband SHINee (Key, Onew, Minho, Taemin and Jonghyun) made their debut in 2008 with the song ‘Replay.’ The group just celebrated their 9th anniversary in May this year and recently visited Singapore to perform at the Shilla Beauty concert.
