Song Joong Ki, Song Hye Kyo are officially divorced
Her agency shared that there will be no alimony nor splitting of assets involved
Less than a month after announcing that they are filing for divorce, Korean actors Song Joong Ki and Song Hye Kyo are officially divorced.
The former couple completed the paperwork at the Seoul Family Court after undergoing mediation as requested by Song Joong Ki. When news of the divorce first broke, they did not share the reason as to why they requested for mediation, which caused much speculation online.
Today (July 22), Song Hye Kyo’s agency, UAA, issued a statement confirming that the mediation has been completed and the actors have completed paperwork finalising their divorce. They also shared that neither party will be paying alimony to the other, and that there was no splitting of assets involved.
The arbitration was held in confidence, and no details about what went on during the session will be revealed to the public.
Previously, industry watchers speculated that the pair might have gone into mediation because of the assets, including multiple properties that they own. They have an estimated 100 billion won (S$166.7 million) worth of combined assets, including the 10 billion won (S$11.67 million) mansion in Itaewon which was reported to have been their marital home.
In related news, Song Hye Kyo has confirmed in a recent interview that she will not be taking on any acting projects for the rest of the year. During a recent visit to Morocco, she told a magazine that she will be taking time off and giving herself a vacation. She will still attend brand-related activities, but has no plans to take on a new drama or movie. She has yet to decide on her plans for 2020.
She also gave an insight on how she chooses her projects. The actress mused, “The projects that I come across and I don’t come across are all destined. I realise that not only applies to my work, but every part of my life. Everything happens at the right time, and for a reason.”
