Song Joong Ki was “really nervous” when he proposed to Song Hye Kyo

In a recent interview on a Korean programme Entertainment Weekly, Korean actor Song Joong Ki, who’s currently promoting his new movie, The Battleship Island, shared more about his proposal to Descendants of the Sun co-star Song Hye Kyo.

“I was really very nervous [during the proposal]. Although the whole country knows that we’re actors, but in reality, we’re no different from the average couple on the street, there’s nothing special [about us],” he mused.

The 31-year-old also let on that they have plenty in common, saying, “We often talk about the different drama series [that are currently airing]. The dramas that we like are often similar, and we’re currently into My Father Is Strange. The couple that we’re rooting for [in the drama] is the same as well.”

Additionally, the actor left a short video message for his good friend, Korean actor-model Lee Kwang Soo. The duo are known to be fast friends, with Kwang Soo even posting a picture of Joong Ki’s “confession” to him on his Instagram account in mock sadness when news of Joong Ki’s relationship first broke.

In his video message, Joong Ki hilariously begged for Kwang Soo to stop calling him so often, saying, ‘Kwang Soo ah, I have a new family now, you should stop calling me so often as well. You’ll understand [why] later. One needs to be more tactful in order to live well.”

Joong Ki and Hye Kyo have long been rumoured to be in a relationship, and were even reported to have vacationed in a number of countries together, with the most recent being Bali, Indonesia in June this year. Earlier this month (July 5), the Descendants of the Sun co-stars announced that they were in a relationship and that they will tie the knot on October 31 this year, to the delight of their fans.

The Battleship Island’s Hwang Jung Min, So Ji Sub, Song Joong Ki and director Ryoo Seung Wan will hold a Meet & Greet session on August 8, 7pm at Suntec City’s North Atrium.

The Battleship Island opens in cinemas on August 17.
