Super Junior’s Sungmin, Kangin to sit out of SMTOWN concerts

Super Junior’s Sungmin and Kangin will be sitting out of SMTOWN’s upcoming concerts in Japan and South Korea. Their label, SJ Label, confirmed the news through a statement released yesterday. This comes after the pair have been involved in their respective controversies.

Sungmin has been the subject of scrutiny from Korean fans after he announced that he was married. The label explained, “Sungmin, who is having issues with his fans, will not be joining the SMTOWN concerts.”

Separately, Kangin was involved in his second DUI (driving under the influence) incident last year, for which he was found guilty and fined. The label shared, “Kangin, who is currently reflecting on his drunk driving case, will also not be attending. The other active members will be performing at the concerts.”

After the news broke, Sungmin updated his Instagram account with a statement of his own, declaring that he would be sitting out of Super Junior’s upcoming album as well. He said, “Firstly, I’d like to apologise for causing trouble for so many fans. There has been a lot of negative talk about me recently, but I couldn’t act on my own, so I apologise once again for the late response.”

“Looking back on my wedding preparations, I don’t think I was considerate and truthful to my fans who have loved me for over a decade (…) I always looked forward to promoting with Super Junior even while I was in the army. However, I really want the group’s upcoming album to do well, and have decided to exclude myself from their upcoming promotions,” he added.

Apologising once again to his fans, Sungmin asked for more time to reflect and work hard, and asked for all ELF (Super Junior’s fans) to support the group.
