Reality survival programmes are becoming increasingly popular in K-Pop these days – the struggle of making the final cut is a well-documented process, with the blood, sweat and tears shed by the trainees broadcasted for the world to see.

For IN2IT, the eight members were also decided through such a process – to be exact, they went up against 5,500 applicants before qualifying for the Boys24 programme, which put them through 260 shows throughout months of intense competition before their debut last October.

Made up of Hyunuk, Inho, Inpyo, Isaac, Jiahn, Jinsub, Sunghyun and Yeontae, the octet embarked on their first Asia showcase tour earlier this month, with Singapore (Feb 2) being the first stop on their list, followed by pit stops in Kuala Lumpur (Feb 4) and Jakarta (Feb 10) shortly after.

The first order of business for IN2IT as they kick started their tour was dealing with the media in closed-door interviews, held at the One Farrer Hotel & Spa. With the first interview scheduled at 11am, we were pleasantly surprised to see that they arrived at least 10 minutes ahead of time and were all raring to go.

During our interview slot, we were also taken aback by the name tags that each of them pinned on their jackets. “They’re rookies, so we hope that this can help with any confusion that the media might have about the members!” one of their minders chirped when we asked about the unique choice of fashion accessory.

What happened during their showcase?

During the course of the interview, the members not only cheerfully tackled all the questions we posed to them, but also made sure to help each other out by finishing each other’s sentences and reminding over-excited members to hold the mic when speaking, so that everyone would be recorded perfectly for the cameras. They even their best to communicate in English as much as they can, although seven of the members are Korean (Issac is the only foreign member who hails from Malaysia.)

This down-to-earth attitude and teamwork carried forward to their showcase later that night, where they not only performed songs from their discography (fan favourites included ‘Cadillac’ and ‘Amazing’), but also had solo performances. Not only did they cover Adele (Inho’s rendition of ‘When We Were Young’ showcased his mellow vocals perfectly), but industry seniors such as BTS, EXO and SEVENTEEN with their dance stages. (In case you’re wondering, they grooved to ‘MIC DROP’, ‘The Eve’ and ‘CLAP’ respectively.)

Naturally, they also took every opportunity to speak to their fans and thank them for their support, with IN2IT pleasantly surprised by the cake that was wheeled out for them towards the end of the event. As it turns out, the group celebrated their 100th day since their debut on February 2, and the fans were sure to commemorate the special day, promising to “walk together for a thousand, and even ten thousand years”. Aww.

If you’re wondering why we think that 2018 might just become IN2IT’s year, the reason for our bold statement is because of the humility, ready-to-learn and hardworking attitudes that all eight IN2IT members showed us during their short visit here. That, coupled with their raw talent, gives them a strong foundation that means that the only way for them to go from here is up – and while we aren’t fortune tellers, we’re hoping that the next time IN2IT visits our sunny shores, they’ll have even better stories to tell us.

IN2IT reveal the most difficult part of their trainee days

Toggle: If each member had to choose a specific point that you think makes you the most charming, what would it be?

Jiahn: I think I look really great when I'm on stage - I’m really cool when I'm performing!

Yeontae: For me, it's my voice when I'm singing.

Hyunuk: It would be my brilliant brain.

Isaac: As everyone knows, one of my charm is knowing five languages. But besides that, the second is my confidence. I can be sexy, cute and a little bit cool. My confidence is my charm.

Sunghyun: I’m the youngest in the group, but at the same time I’m the tallest so I think I have a different charm when I’m on and off stage.

Inpyo: I look really strong and healthy. However, if you look at my personality, I’m really someone who is very detailed, so that contrast is my charm.

Inho: My biggest charm is that I can speak to people with my eyes. Can you tell what I'm trying to say with my eyes right now? Yes, I said that I really love Singapore. I think another charm of mine is that I’m in charge of the reactions in the team. Whenever someone says something, I'll be sure to react so that they won't feel awkward.

Jinsub: For me, it's how I look when I dance. What I have there is something special, which is also my biggest charm.

What do you miss the most about your trainee days during Boys24, and what do you think was the most difficult part of it?

Inho: Throughout the Boys24 programme, we had a lot of difficult and hard times. However, I look at all those times as experiences that we had to go through in order to become who we are today, which is memorable in itself. That's also why I remember all the times that I spent there and it also helped bring us to where we are now. I also hope that everyone will look forward to what we have and where we go in the future.

Issac on being the only foreign member in the group

Your mini album is titled Carpe Diem, so what is the most ‘Carpe Diem’ thing that you've ever done?

Hyunuk: I think the Carpe Diem of me is when I'm on the stage. When people actually cheer for us and support us on the stage, it's something really memorable that makes me happy. That's our Carpe Diem.

Your title track, ‘Amazing’, did really well on the music charts. What makes you feel amazing?

Yeontae: I think the one thing that made us really amazing is our IN2U (official name for fans of IN2IT) that were the ones who brought us to where we are, even here at this very moment, and we also receive a lot of love from them on a daily basis. We hope to be able to give them back as much love as they have given us.

Isaac is the only foreign member in the group – how does it feel being part of a K-Pop group?

Isaac: First of all, I am very happy to be a part of a K-Pop group as a foreign member. And as you see now, I’m here and I achieved my dream. So I just want to say that if you have a dream, just try it and never give up! Just try it!

What has been the most memorable moment the members since debuting as IN2IT?

Inpyo: Just like our title album “Amazing”. I think a lot of amazing stuff happened to us after our debut. For example, we ranked fifth during one of the M Countdown episodes. Last Christmas, we had a special performance with our fans. The other amazing thing is that we have been receiving a lot of love from our IN2U. In December, we went to Taiwan and Japan for overseas activities and we're now in the midst of having our Asian tour. At this very moment, we're in Singapore, and soon, we will be going to Malaysia and Indonesia. The thing is, it hasn't been this long since our debut, but we've been able to visit so many places and do so many things, so that's the most amazing thing for us.

What are your goals as a group as and individuals for 2018 and beyond?

Jiahn: We want to have even more activities and have the world as our stage. We're also currently preparing for our second album, so I hope you guys look forward to it because it's coming really soon.
