8 unforgettable moments from MONSTA X’s Special Show

The gloomy weather over the weekend did nothing to rain on the parade of Singapore’s MONBEBE (official name for fans of MONSTA X, pronounced Mon-beh-beh), who erupted in loud cheers as their idols, MONSTA X, took the stage on Saturday night (Mar 3) for their opening act at The Coliseum, Hard Rock Hotel Singapore (they were in town to headline an exclusive showcase for the HSBC Women's World Championship).

Celebrating their third debut anniversary on May 14 this year, the septet held their fort for the first time in the solo fanmeet and mini concert on our Little Red Dot, after their last joint fanmeet with former labelmates and sister group SISTAR in 2015.

After watching them perform live to a crowd of 3000 fans, we can totally understand why the group, consisting of members Shownu, Wonho, Kihyun, Minhyuk, Jooheon, Hyungwon and I.M, bagged the best concert performer award during Mnet Asia Music Awards (MAMA) last year. The K-pop group heated up the stage with energetic dance performances, powerful vocals, and spitfire rap, all while melting the hearts of fans with sweet confessions of love.

Here’s a look back on the 8 best moments of MONSTA X’s special show in Singapore, something to tide you over till their next visit! Read on for more.

Powerful performances that brought the roof down

It was 8.30pm at The Coliseum, and emotions were riding high as MONBEBE, armed with fan boards and banners, sang along to hit track after hit track through music videos in anticipation for the appearance of their beloved idols.

Finally, the seven boys took their positions on stage as the crowd broke into resounding cheers, and kickstarted the show with all-time popular track ‘Beautiful’, while looking quite the stunner themselves in loose white dress shirts and black dress pants.

Of course, iconic hit songs ‘From Zero’ and ‘Hero’ (cue screaming MONBEBE as they were treated to a flash of polished abs) were not to be missed, as the boys showcased their manly charms through strong and sharp choreographies.

Wonho also told fans that ‘From Zero’, a song about finding love again, which he helped pen lyrics for, is a song he wanted to sing for Singapore MONBEBE for the longest time. What a sweetheart!

As the show continued, the hype was turned up to a whole new level when the boys readied themselves with their backs to the audience. We all know what that is - ‘DRAMARAMA’, their most recent hit that earned them their first weekly music show win last November.

With new milestones shared between the boys and their beloved fans, MONSTA X presented MONBEBE with a photo collage reminiscing their journey together so far. They started with pictures from their debut days and drew awwws from the crowd, as the boys’ younger and rebellious-looking past appearances were captured through edgy outfits from their debut song ‘Trespass’.

They also thanked MONBEBE as they flashed out photos of the group posing with their trophies attained from several music award ceremonies, including ‘Best Entertainer Award’ from Asia Artist Award in 2017, and ‘Discovery Of The Year Award’ in Seoul Music Awards earlier this year to name a few.

Finally, the photo series ended with a photo of their teary faces from their ‘DRAMARAMA’ win, drawing greater reactions from MONBEBE who asked them not to cry.

After the boys bared their hearts out, it was time for Singapore MONBEBE to do the same, with their own special dedication video.

Drawing laughs from the boys with their compilation of the members’ meme-worthy expressions and also recalling the memories made together, several lucky MONBEBE were able to express their “Saranghaeyo”s  (“I love you” in Korean) and “Gomawoyo”s (“Thank you” in Korean) as the boys watched attentively.

We don’t need a dedication video to know how dedicated Singapore MONBEBE are to MONSTA X – their support for the boys despite rain or shine at the open press conference on March 2 bears testament to that.

Despite being two days late to Wonho’s birthday (Mar 1), Singapore MONBEBE made sure to give the 25-year-old a memorable birthday celebration by presenting him with a ramyun-shaped cake while chorusing the birthday song in unison!

It seems the birthday boy loved his cake, which smelled like choco pie (a popular Korean cake snack) according to him, as he could not stop taking bites of it. His fellow members had to stop him from eating more (so they could save some for themselves) and the cake was wheeled away so the show could go on.

Throughout the celebration, Wonho did not forget to thank MONBEBE, and promised to return in summer because he received an “unforgettable present”.

Kihyun also expressed that Singapore MONBEBE were sweet to have prepared both the dedication video and the birthday surprise, and melted the hearts of fans further when he professed that he was glad they came.

We’re sure it was as unforgettable for MONBEBE as it was for you. Pinky promise, we’ll be waiting for your return!

Valentine’s Day may be over, but the air was filled with love last night when MONSTA X started throwing candies and chocolates into the crowd, teasing MONBEBE along the way.

MONSTA X gets a cake, while MONBEBE gets chocolates. Were you one of the lucky fans who caught one?

Rappers Jooheon and I.M tried to prove once again that they are the real crooners of MONSTA X despite their tough rapper images, and incited excited squeals from fans as they attempted to flex their vocal abilities with ‘I’ll Be There’.

While the bashful I.M showed a lack of confidence when it comes to hitting the high notes, MONBEBE showed that they were behind him all the way by encouraging him with cheers.

Well, we know for sure the duo can sing and rap (check out the impressive mixtape collaboration ‘Be My Friend’), perhaps their next project can be a long overdue vocal performance?

In an interactive fun segment during the show, the seven ‘Moncassos’ (an amusing amalgamation of MONSTA X and Picasso) sat down to draw pictures of food they wished to eat with Singapore MONBEBE.

Shownu shared that he would love to have a drink with MONBEBE – a “non-alcoholic” drink, he clarified – while Wonho shared that ice cream is the best choice due to Singapore’s hot weather.

Minhyuk introduced the refreshing Naengmyeon (Korean cold noodles) as his food of choice to counter the heat, while Kihyun chose a local delicacy and expressed his love for Chili Crab, because “Singapore is Chili Crab”. The youngest member I.M however, caused confusion when he showed his drawing of ‘water’.

“You guys are my flowers, so you need some water,” he explained in fluent English, before imitating turkish chef Salt Bae where he pretended to sprinkle water over imaginary MONBEBE.

No prizes for guessing whom got crowned ‘Moncasso’ when fans had to vote for their favourite drawing. Who says the way to a woman’s heart is good food? Being a real charmer helps too!

While the certified aegyo (a Korean term for a cute display of affection) master of MONSTA X is Jooheon, I.M showed his cute side to fans (the ‘price’ he has to pay for being a charming Moncasso) with his own rendition of ‘Oppaya’, a popular Korean aegyo anthem song by Korean acoustic indie duo SEENROOT.

MONBEBE were then further blessed when the group also sabotaged Wonho, with good intentions of course, to perform aegyo.

Albeit shy, he successfully completed his task with the help of enthusiastic Jooheon, rousing fangirl screams of approval as he portrayed a cute appearance with hand gestures and expressions.
