BTS, you are the cause of our euphoria
We can’t believe the South Korean super-group’s record-breaking concert at Singapore’s National Stadium has come and gone

From the moment that BTS’s Love Yourself tour stop in Singapore was announced, we knew it wasn’t going to be just another ordinary concert.
For starters, there was the location - no other K-pop act has ever performed in the National Stadium. Even the biggest shows of that genre have only been held at the Singapore Indoor Stadium next door, but yesterday (Jan 19), that venue had a new role to play: as the waiting area for the standing pen attendees. Let that sink in.
Even those of us in the seated sections experienced something new. Because of the overwhelming turnout, we had to do what Singaporeans do best - queue - in a long, snaking line that brought us on a scenic tour along the Kallang River, before finally arriving at security checks and entering the arena.
The whole process took an hour, but it immediately became all worth it when the boys of BTS emerged on stage, each dressed in glittering suits and looking more than ready to rock out with their beloved ARMY (the fandom name). After an energetic performance of ‘Idol’, they immediately went straight into introductions, with all seven members speaking English (and drawing piercing shrieks of delight no matter what they said).
These elated responses from the 45,000-strong crowd would become a common occurrence throughout the three-hour gig, whether someone hit an impressive high note, executed a particularly sensual dance move, or did an adorable gesture to the close-up live feed camera.
In fact, sometimes the septet did not even need to do anything at all to elicit these decibel-busting cheers. Fans seemed happy enough to be breathing the same air as them (weren’t you?).
