Now, this is a combination that we didn’t expect: local starlets Chantalle Ng and Tay Ying and K-Pop artiste Sandara Park (also known as Dara) - yes, the one that debuted as a 2NE1 member and took over the world by storm. But we digress - what, exactly, do these three lovely ladies have in common?

The answer is simple: the trio teamed up as hosts of upcoming beauty programme Get It Beauty On The Road, where they travelled around Singapore to try out the latest beauty trends and gadgets. Filmed in Mandarin, Korean and English, the programme will also be subtitled in English, Mandarin, Bahasa Malaysia, Bahasa Indonesia and Thai.

After a week of filming on our sunny island, Dara, Chantalle and Tay Ying met with the media at a press conference held at the Conrad Centennial Singapore yesterday (May 11), where they not only shared their filming experience, but also some of the beauty tips they learned (and revealed) while on the programme.

When asked about their first impressions of Dara, Chantalle and Tay Ying gushed about how the 33-year-old was down-to-earth despite her superstar status, and extremely patient with them throughout the course of filming. In short, they declared her as a real-life angel “who’s beautiful inside out”. Aww.

What are Dara’s plans for the rest of 2018?

Having grown up in the Philippines, Dara is no stranger to hot and humid weather, as she shared during the press conference that the skincare routine she strongly believes in is putting on a sheet mask every single day. “I’m human, so I don’t look good when I wake up, either,” she chuckled. “I try to put a face mask or mask pack on every night, even if I’m feeling tired or lazy, because it only takes 15 minutes!”

Apart from her daily mask routine, she also ensures that she gets her exercise fix all the time - be it in the dressing room, or even toilet, she’s got tricks up her sleeves that she will reveal on the programme that will help you keep in shape.

After dishing out beauty tips with much gusto (after all, she’s been interested in fashion and beauty since she was 8, so she’s got plenty of experience up her sleeves), she answered a question that got the fans in the room all excited: her plans for the rest of the year.

“Right now, I’m focusing on beauty (and filming this programme)” she explained. “I’m quite busy so I don’t really have time to go to the studio to work on my music, which makes me kind of sad, but whenever I have a day off, I’ll try to go and make some music.”

Dara continued, “I don’t want to make any kind of promises because it’s hard to predict what will happen in our line of work (…) it could be singing, it could be acting; I’m also excited to see what I’ll be working on this year.”

Chantalle and Tay Ying received tips from Quan Yi Fong on how to host

This being both their first time hosting a programme, Chantalle and Tay Ying were understandably concerned about how they’d perform, and did their homework in order to do a good job.

“This time around, we had to host in Mandarin as well, so we got some tips from aunty Yi Fong,” Chantalle explained in an interview with Toggle. “She made me read out an article everyday and point out the words that I don’t know.”

Tay Ying added, “Not everything that we say comes from a script, so we had to learn how to react to impromptu situations. She told us that of the most important things was to be confident and just say what I wanted instead of being afraid making mistakes, because that’s how you learn.”

Although their mentor-cum-manager Addy Lee wasn’t around to watch them like a hawk while they were filming, they shared that their manager, Kelly, was there every step of the way, which prompted Chantalle to share a hilarious tidbit about how her fashion style doesn’t quite sync with Kelly’s.

“Sometimes when I don’t have a stylist for an event and I have to pick my own clothes, I might spend hours sitting in front of my closet, and after I pick my favourite dress, I send a picture of it to her,” Chantalle explained.

“She’ll say that she doesn’t like it - but she says it in a very nice way,” she sighed. “The best part is, she doesn’t even ask Tay Ying for photos of her outfits!” This was greeted with a joyous “Naega jeil jal laga! (I’m the best) from Tay Ying, and we must say, what better time to quote a 2NE1 song than that very moment.

Perfect timing aside, Chantalle let on later on in the interview that the reason that Kelly might find her clothes “auntie” is that her mum, Lin Meijiao, is usually the one that buys them for her “because I’m too lazy to do it!” She chuckled that her supper buddies are the ones who see her bare face the most often, because she’s not one to put on makeup on a regular basis.

Sharing the same sentiment was Tay Ying, who admitted that her made-up face is by no means an everyday occurrence. “When I’m at school, I don’t have any makeup on, and I just throw on a T-shirt, a pair of shorts and slippers,” she grinned. “After all, we just want to be comfortable, right?”

Having celebrity mothers also means that they sometimes share skincare or makeup - for Tay Ying, it’s the latter. “My mum has really good skin, so we can share our makeup! For example, I have a lot of BB cushions but I only have one face, so I sometimes give one to her,” she said.

In Chantalle’s case, Meijiao sometimes buys two of the same skincare product, but labels them clearly. “She writes her name on her bottle and mine on the one she bought for me,” she shared. “But I use quite a lot of toner, so even though my bottle is in the toilet, and hers is on the dressing table, sometimes I just sit at the dressing table and use hers instead.”

A quick check revealed that her mum didn’t know about this toner treachery prior to this interview, which prompted Chantalle to burst out a quick, “I love you mum!” Oops.
