Girls’ Generation’s Yoona was stopped from answering a question at a Taiwan press conference

Girls’ Generation’s Yoona recently attended a press conference to promote an app in Taipei, where she demonstrated an impressive grasp of Mandarin and sometimes did not even need the help of the interpreter at all. The 29-year-old singer-actress shared that she spends a lot of time learning the language, and watches Chinese productions and listens to Chinese music when she is free.

However, when reporters attempted to ask what movie she’s seen recently to improve her Mandarin, one of the Korean staff members immediately stepped in to stop Yoona from answering the question, and all she could do was look at everyone with an apologetic expression and say, “You’ve worked hard.”

As it turned out, only questions that were submitted in advance and approved were allowed to be asked at the event. According to media reports, only seven questions were chosen, and as a result, what was supposed to be a 30-minute session ended in just eight minutes.

During the rest of her brief appearance, Yoona touched on app-related topics, such as her favourite messaging sticker (“A laughing face,” she answered in Mandarin) and texting pet peeve (when someone reads her message but doesn’t reply her). Yoona was also asked if she and her bandmates compete to see who sends the first birthday wish, to which she laughed, “It’s me!”
