'Faculty' was honoured at the Busan International Film Festival

It was a big night for homegrown talent as Channel 5 drama Faculty nabbed two gongs at the 2019 Busan International Film Festival's inaugural Asia Contents Awards, which was established to recognise outstanding works from 10 ASEAN countries, on Sunday.

The series itself was crowned Best Asian Drama, while actress Fang Rong won Best Rising Star. "Growing up as a child actor, I’ve always loved acting. I’m glad that now that I’m older, I am still able to pursue acting as my career," Fang Rong shared in a statement through her manager.

"I’d like to thank all the people who have stood by me through the last 20 years - my parents for their unconditional love, my siblings," she continued. "Not forgetting many mentors from Mediacorp and The Celebrity Agency for the all the guidance and opportunities. To be recognised for something that is so close to my heart means the world to me. But what means more than that, is that I get the chance to move the hearts of the world - one role at a time. Thank you."

Congratulations!

Love 97.2FM DJ Kenneth Kong’s wife is expecting twins

On Thursday, the DJ-host shared this lovely photo of him cradling his wife’s pregnant belly to announce the impending arrival of his second child, and said that it will be a chance for the entire family, including his eldest son Xu Yang, to enter a new stage of learning in life. “It will be an opportunity for Yang Yang to learn how to be a big brother, and for me to learn how to balance my time properly,” he wrote.

He later posted a complete family photo, where he revealed that there are actually twins - a boy and a girl - on the way. Congrats and jiayou to everyone!

Desmond Ng’s fans celebrated his birthday by giving back

Last weekend, the singer-actor’s fan club Destheway celebrated his 32nd birthday in advance (his actual birthday was yesterday) by working with volunteers from non-profit organisation Happy People Helping People to plan a nice little get-together for 50 low-income families in the Toa Payoh district.

Activities of the day included lunch, games, a lucky draw, a singalong session featuring classic tunes and TV theme songs, as well as some simple workouts at the end, before the beneficiaries left with goodie bags. What a heart-warming and fulfilling day!

Fann Wong and Christopher Lee celebrated their 10th anniversary

The celeb couple’s 10th wedding anniversary dinner was a family affair - and we don’t just mean that only son Zed joined in. From the looks of the group photo, their parents and a whole bunch of other relatives came along for a meal at the posh 15 Stamford by Alvin Leung. Hey, good things must share right?

Celebs paid tribute to Xiao Yan Jie

Veteran host Chang Hsiao Yen (a.k.a. Xiao Yan Jie) was conferred the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award at last night’s Golden Bell Awards, and many Taiwanese celebs took to social media to dedicate posts expressing their gratitude to her. We think the impact she left on so many lives is way more valuable than just a shiny trophy.

What are Jesseca Liu and Tay Ping Hui doing!?

A new challenge appears to be sweeping across social media, and the actors couldn’t help but participate in it. It looks like the aim is to put an entire cream cracker in one’s mouth without breaking it, which Ping Hui clearly managed to achieve much easier than poor Jesseca.

If you’re an older sibling in the family, you can probably relate to Brendan’s unamused expression here at his little brother Ryan’s 100th day celebration. Also at the shindig were other celebs like Ruco Chan, Phoebe Sin, Kevin Cheng, Selena Lee, and more.

Elvin Ng became a painter for a day

It wasn’t all work and no play for the actor during his time in Taiwan, where he filmed All is Well and continued to visit for promotional appearances. He recently posted this #throwback of himself unleashing his inner artist for a “fun and therapeutic experience”, which he added was a “great way to destress and make use of some imagination”.

“Can only say that what turns out to be is often very far off from what you imagined it to be!” he quipped. Well, we still think the final artwork is pretty good, though!

Well, it’s never too late to start giving back. The veteran host gave blood for the first time on Wednesday, adding that it felt good to do so. She also reported she was in such good health that she was able to run around energetically right after she was done. Not bad.

Kang Gary posted a rare family photo

While the former Running Man star doesn’t shy away from sharing pictures of his son, this is the first time his non-celebrity wife has made an appearance on his Instagram page, and the first time the entire family of three has been featured as well. Though the picture was taken from a distance and only features their back views, it’s still a pretty sweet sight nonetheless.

“Happiness can be very simple,” the actor wrote next to two adorable candid pictures of him playing with his little boy Ethan, which were taken by his wife Evelyn. Well, we do feel happy just looking at these precious shots. Ethan, and his cheeks, are really too cute for words.

Vivian Hsu turned her son into a vampire

Like the singer-actress pointed out, mothers are really required to be a “jack of all trades”. For Dalton’s school’s monster-themed Children’s Day celebration on Friday, Vivian attempted to do his vampire makeup herself... but not before experimenting - and failing “many times” - on her own face. A commendable effort, though! And we’re still chuckling at “I’m really not a beat up version of Crayon Shin-Chan (sic)”.

It’s easy to see where the former 2NE1 member gets her badass-ness from. On Tuesday, she shared this picture of her grandpa to wish him a happy birthday, and we can only say that he gives off the same “don’t mess with me” vibe as his granddaughter.

On Friday, the singer-actress shared two heart-warming photos of herself embracing her mother, whom she revealed was suffering from shingles. “Mum has been experiencing a lot of pain for days now, [but] the pain in her waist and back seems to have decreased, [so] I’m not afraid to hug her a little tighter,” she wrote. “I’m so blessed to still have parents to embrace at this age.”

Have you hugged your folks and other loved ones today?

Joseph Schooling shared an inspirational message for Children’s Day

“You’re never too small to dream big. Always encourage your child to work hard, persevere and pursue their dreams,” wrote the swimming champ next to an old photo of himself with his idol and now-fellow swimming champ Michael Phelps - years before Joseph himself went on to make his own country proud at the Olympics and various other competitions. Yep, dreams really can come true.
