Insta-buzz: What the stars were up to this week

It’s been relatively quiet on stars’ social media feeds this past week, but there were still a few exciting moments such as the Cartier pop-up (which saw Korean star Ji Chang Wook rubbing shoulders with local actresses), a cute birthday dedication for a Japanese icon, the return of a disgraced actress on Instagram, and more.

Lin Chi-ling released a photo from her wedding

Like she promised, Chi-ling posted a lovely picture of herself and her husband, Japanese actor and EXILE member Akira, from their Tainan nuptials today.

“1117~ Let’s be happy together,” she wrote in her caption. Congratulations, Chi-ling and Akira! We can’t wait to see more pictures from your big day.

Ji Chang Wook was back in town after four years

The South Korean heartthrob, who completed his mandatory military service earlier this year, returned to Singapore for the first time since 2015 for the launch of the Clash de Cartier Studio pop-up on Thursday night. Local actresses Rui En, Rebecca Lim, and Sheila Sim were also in attendance and got to rub shoulders with him at the photo wall as well. Lucky ladies - or is it lucky him?

Felicia Chin and Ben Yeo successfully wrapped up their play

Infinite Island: A Theatre in Concert, a play by the Singapore Chinese Orchestra about the transformation of Singapore from fishing village to global city, took place at the Singapore Conference Hall last night, with Felicia and Ben in the lead roles. The actors each played five different roles across five different chapters of the play - not bad, considering the fact that this was Feli’s very first theatre production, and Ben’s first leading role in one.

A number of their famous friends came to show their support in the audience, including Rui En, Elvin Ng, Romeo Tan, Shaun Chen, Chantalle Ng, Edwin Goh, and of course, Jeffrey Xu (who was even there for the full-dress rehearsal).

Carina Lau spammed photos of her husband

While the actress doesn’t exactly refrain from sharing snapshots of her hubby, cinema icon Tony Leung, on her Instagram, we don’t remember her ever uploading so many pictures of him like she did yesterday. The ridiculously good-looking couple attended a fancy ball in Shanghai together and presumably stole the show (we definitely wouldn’t have been able to keep our eyes off them).

Selina Jen received her wedding favours from Lin Chi-ling

Lin Chi-ling and EXILE’s Akira, who are tying the knot today (congrats!), started sending out wedding favours to their friends and relatives earlier this week. Selina was one of the recipients and happily shared photos of the box of Yoku Moku treats on Instagram, along with her well-wishes for Chi-ling, who replied, “Be happy together.”

Ayden Sng had a “painful” 26th birthday

The up-and-coming actor was invited to participate in the Kobe Marathon in Japan today, where he managed to complete the full 42 km. It’s no wonder he said he had a “painful” 26th birthday.

He also looked back at the past year, which was “kind of a roller coaster ride” for him as he “spent the first couple months deciding between two careers” before finally deciding to join acting full-time.

“The anxiety from the instability and significant pay cut is something that haunts me each day while I continue struggling to discover for myself why I do what I do each and every day,” he wrote. “I still don’t have the answer but this process of understanding more of my inner motivations has been nothing short of enriching. People are always on a journey to figure out what their place in life is - something they’re good at, something that can help them impact others and leave a legacy - some people get there earlier and some people like me, will take a longer time to figure out.”

We’re sure you’ll figure it out soon, Ayden. Happy birthday!

Aaron Aziz’s aunt passed away

It was a sad week for the actor as his aunt, who took care of him and his siblings after their father’s death, passed away, and unfortunately, he was unable to be by her side in her final moments “as circumstances didn’t allow [him] to”.

In another post, he looked back at and apologised for all the trouble he had caused his poor aunt while growing up with her.  “Forgive me Aunty for all bad behavior as a kid, making you worry about me, making you angry cos of my naughtiness... When you caught me doing nonsense things in my room under the roof you provided for me and my siblings. All the disappointment I have caused in your life. But I am a better man today, cos of you. (sic)”

Our condolences to Aaron and his family.

Jacqueline Wong broke her seven-month social media silence

The actress, who disappeared from the public eye after her explosive cheating scandal with Sammi Cheng’s husband, Andy Hui, was revealed, updated her Instagram page for the first time since April last Sunday.

Alongside a photo of a stack of scripts, Jacqueline shared her thoughts on her drama Finding Her Voice being selected as one of TVB’s anniversary dramas. “In my heart, the emotion that I’ve been experiencing the most is fear. I’m scared that my actions have negatively affected the performance of the drama, and I’m scared that everyone’s efforts will go to waste.” She then thanked the viewers as well as the people she had worked with on the show.

The comments section of her post was flooded with messages of encouragement and support, proving that while it may seem like it, not everyone hates her right now.

Belinda Lee shared more wedding pics (again)

It’s been three weeks since the actress-host tied the knot with her American architect beau, but new photos still keep popping up on her Instagram page. Not that we’re complaining though - the shots are gorgeous and each of them tells a story. Jacelyn Tay is a fan too, commenting, “Continue to post more pics!” We second that.

Joey Swee’s son was honoured at school

Despite not achieving the best results in both his studies and sports activities last year, the former actress’s second son, Jefferson, picked himself up and tried again… and managed to go up on stage to receive a school award on Wednesday.

“Your perseverance in badminton taught mummy never give up in life! My nagging in your studies taught mummy to continue to nag at you for the rest of my life,” she quipped. Jokes aside, Joey added that being first or last is not important - what matters is that one enjoys the process and does their best without any guilt.

They may no longer be married, but the Twelve Cupcakes founders are still dedicated co-parents to their little girl Renee and make sure to be around for important occasions together. On Friday, the nine-year-old received an award for Best Progress at school, and her mum and dad were there to celebrate the milestone with her. Congrats and well done, Renee!

Gaile Lok enjoyed a night out with her hubby

It’s nice to see that the model and her husband, businessman Ian Chu (who rarely makes an appearance on her Instagram page), still manage to set aside some romantic one-on-one time for each other in the midst of being parents to adorable baby Hunter.

The couple had the “perfect date night” some time this week at a swanky, award-winning Japanese restaurant in Hong Kong, where they indulged in atas dishes like aged yellowtail, marinated raw crab, and sea urchin with caviar. Yum.

Last weekend, the local crooner jetted off to Nepal with housing charity Habitat For Humanity Singapore to help build homes in the Dhulikhel district. Also, we definitely wouldn’t have looked as good as him drenched in sweat and with our hair all over the place like that.

We were definitely nowhere as ecstatic as Zetong here when we were assigned our lockers at the Mediacorp Campus. Then again, we weren’t just crowned the winner of Star Search 2019 the week before either.

Awww, what happened to JackJack? The former f(x) member’s precious pooch had to be put in a pet cone and carried around in a sling bag after a “rough” visit to the vet clinic that she did not elaborate on. Whatever happened, we hope her fur kid gets well soon.

Jay Chou’s son looked like an expert art collector

“Romeo says you have to keep your hands behind your back when appreciating paintings,” wrote the Mandopop star next to an adorable video of his boy looking like a professional art dealer at a famous museum.

However, wife Hannah Quinlivan’s comment “Or is it because daddy is strict” makes us wonder if little Romeo was taught to do that because of a prior incident where he touched artwork he shouldn’t have…

Sheila Sim got closer to nailing a tough yoga pose

This seemingly straightforward workout mirror selfie actually contains a very uplifting and encouraging message from the model-turned-actress, who wrote that when her yoga instructor first demonstrated this pose, she didn’t believe it would be possible to do. However, she ended up surprising herself, and while she’s “far from perfecting” the posture, she’s happy that she “didn’t let [her] assumption stop [her] trying”.

“Sometimes when we break free from our self-doubt, we will surprise ourselves of how much we can actually achieve! (sic)” she wrote.

Sheila should really consider writing a motivational self-help book next time.
