Remember when it felt like Lee Seung Gi had been in the army forever? The excruciating wait for his discharge finally ended in October last year, and last Saturday night (July 7), Singapore fans welcomed him back with open arms (literally, for a handful of lucky ones) for his first fan meeting here in five years.

The two-hour event started straightforwardly enough, with the 31-year-old singer-actor-host appearing on the Zepp@BIGBOX stage with a performance of ‘Because You’re My Girl’, followed by a Q&A session with the host, where he touched on topics like his latest drama A Korean Odyssey, upcoming action series Vagabond (which will see him reunited with Gu Family Book co-star Bae Suzy) and more.

However, it was when the first interactive segment kicked off that things started to get really interesting, even laugh-out-loud hilarious at times. Three attendees were randomly picked by the cameraman (via suspenseful zooming in on the live feed) to re-enact three romantic scenes from A Korean Odyssey with the Monkey King actor himself.

The best part? One of them was a man who was just there to accompany his girlfriend (he even paid for both their tickets). He was rightly lauded for his #boyfriendgoals behaviour (how many guys do you know would do that?), and was made to recreate the sensual-yet-sweet blanket back hug from the show, except they used a towel (and they were both fully clothed, of course).

Instead of envious-sounding cries from the floor, the whole display was received with boisterous cheers and applause from a highly entertained, mostly female audience. Even Seung Gi himself noticed the spike in volume, exclaiming with a chuckle, “This is the biggest reaction I’ve ever gotten for this; I didn’t know you guys like this kind of stuff!”

Speaking of big reactions, the next part of the event was like striking the lottery for one particular devotee who just couldn’t seem to keep her cool around her idol. She shared that she had been to all of Seung Gi’s fan meetings this year (previously held in Taipei, Bangkok and Tokyo), but never had any luck being selected to join him on stage.

Well, the odds were clearly in the favour that evening. She was the last one standing after a rigorous round of “this or that” questions posed to Seung Gi regarding his ideal type. In case anyone’s wondering, he prefers a girl with long hair (at least shoulder length), a shorter height (under 167cm), in a skirt and heels, without earrings and without dyed hair, with manicured nails, and who enjoys exercise.

The “victor’s” prize was a charm bracelet, which Seung Gi personally helped her put on, which proved to be a bit of a challenge at first as she was so overwhelmed that she couldn’t stop bouncing around on stage, tickling everyone with the rather comical act. A crew member eventually had to rush up to keep things going.

“She’s the liveliest fan I’ve ever met!” Seung Gi declared with a grin.

About 10 more fans got to enjoy getting up close and personal with Seung Gi when their seat numbers were randomly selected. One got to try a cup of coffee brewed by the star himself (he makes himself a cup of Americano every morning on set), while the others participated in a mini relay race inspired by the challenges on his variety show Master in the House.

While the game pitted two teams against each other, everyone walked away a winner as they all received gifts and hugs from Seung Gi.

The last audience members to get to go on stage were personally invited by Seung Gi himself. They were a couple who had gotten engaged when the husband proposed to the wife on stage at Seung Gi’s very first Singapore fan meeting in 2012, and when he learned that they are now married and have a son, he immediately asked to meet them, clearly very touched and happy to see them again.

We reckon Seung Gi, like his Airen here (yes, that’s what his fans are officially called), will remember this fan meeting for a very long time.
