Ozzy dabbles in burglary

After leaving school at aged 15, Ozzy decided to commit burglary. He attempted to steal a television, – which fell on him during his getaway – a hanful of baby clothes he thought originally thought were adult clothes but it was too dark to see, and some T-shirts. The young rocker was told to pay a fine, but when he couldn’t afford it, his dad decided not to pay it to teach Ozzy a lesson. He spent six weeks in Winson Green Prison.

Ozzy's first tattoo

As a teen, Ozzy decided to begin his canvas of tattoos - he now has over 15 tattoos across his body. His most famous tattoo of the bunch – and his first-ever markings - are the letters O-Z-Z-Y across the knuckles of his left hand. Ozzy created the tattoo by himself when he was 16-years-old with a sewing needle and pencil lead. It is one of the only tattoos the rock star received whilst he was stone-cold sober.

Ozzy's German faux pas

The rock star claimed in his autobiography that he met with the head of CBS Europe in Germany in 1981. He was so intoxicated that he decided to lighten the mood by performing a striptease on the table and then kissed the record executive on the lips. However, according to his wife Sharon, he had actually performed a goose-step – a special marching step performed at special military parades and other ceremonies – up and down the table and urinated in the executives wine.

In 1982, Ozzy was performing at the Veterans Memorial Auditorium in Iowa when he bit off the head of a bat. A 17-year-old fan named Mark Neal through the bat onto the stage and, thinking it was a rubber bat, Ozzy bit its head off. According to Ozzy, the very-much alive flying mammal bit him, resulting in the rock star requiring a rabies jab. Ozzy commemorated the 37th anniversary of the incident by offering an ‘Ozzy Plush Bat’ toy with a detachable head for sale on his personal web store, which sold out within hours.

In December 2003, Ozzy was rushed into emergency surgery at Wexham Park Hospital after he had an accident on his quad bike. He broke his collar bone, eight ribs, and a neck vertebra. The rock star had an operation to lift the collarbone, which was resting on a major artery and interrupting blood flow to the arm. Sharon later revealed that he had stopped breathing and had to be resuscitated by their bodyguard, Sam Ruston. Ozzy also suffered some short-term memory loss.
