Former football star Michael Owen visited Hong Kong on June 11 to shoot a short promotional clip to support his friend’s upcoming film.

“I think my friend is going to ask me if I want to appear in the movie but I’m not sure yet, I’ll have to see if there are any roles that suit me first before I think about it,” he said. “Whenever I come to Asia, I get asked a lot if I’d want to act in a movie and I always think, why? I’m a footballer! But more and more people have asked me that so I might think about it, but we’ll see!”

As for what kind of role he’d like to take on, he said that he would want to just play himself. “I don’t think I would try to be a gangster or anything else like that,” he laughed. “And I don’t think my wife would let me film intimate scenes either!”

Despite not having any movie star dreams, Michael got his first taste of acting with the filming of the promotional clip, which he said was an interesting process. “The biggest challenge for me was speaking Cantonese,” he shared. “Even though I only had to say one line of ‘sorry’, I had to practise a lot of times.”

Filming the promotional clip also had Michael stepping into the kitchen to cook for what he claimed was the very first time in his life. “My favourite Chinese dish is roast pork, and even though it was my first time cooking, it turned out pretty well and was delicious! And making it was not as complicated as I had thought it would be.”
