Mediacorp’s Love 97.2 turns 23 this year, and the station will be staging the Love 97.2 Birthday Musical: Liang Shan Bo & Juliet in conjunction with the milestone.
Among those taking the stage will be the well-loved Love 97.2 Breakfast Quartet, which comprises of Marcus Chin, Mark Lee, Chin Bi Yu and Dennis Chew. Violet Fenying, Leelian, Kenneth Kong, Mary Bukoh and Wallace Ang will also be among the familiar faces you can expect to see at the show, which is a tongue-in-cheek mashup of the stories of classic Chinese tale Liang Shanbo and Zhu Yingtai, along with Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet.
With Biyu and Kenneth taking on the leading roles of Zhu Yingtai and Liang Shanbo, along with Wallace and Dennis channeling their inner Elizabethans with the characters of Romeo and Julius/Juliet respectively, the deejays shared that they will be making good use of the month or so they have until opening night to perfect their routines.

When Toggle spoke to Dennis in an interview after the lensing ceremony, he let on that the photo of him and Rui En taken on Castle Hill, New Zealand was actually a much-belated throwback, and was taken last year when the duo went on vacation together to celebrate his 43rd birthday.
He continued that it was a five day, four night trip to New Zealand that was fully paid for by Rui En in order to give him an unforgettable birthday.
One of the highlights of the trip was their visit to the filming location for The Chronicles of Narnia, which is one of Dennis’ favourite movies. “She didn’t tell me about it beforehand, and made sure my eyes were covered when she led me to the location. It’s really one of the most beautiful locations in New Zealand!” he gushed.
The itinerary for the entire trip was single-handedly handled by Rui En, and Dennis mused, “Even though it was a very short trip, we were really happy during the entire vacation. She made arrangements so that when I opened the windows in my hotel room, I’d be able to look out at New Zealand’s most beautiful lake. She probably spent quite a bit on the trip!”
The Fang siblings at the Star Awards 2017
This was the Fang siblings’ first overseas trip together, but Dennis shared that he and Rui En, who grew closer after working on The Dream Makers together, “meet up often for coffee, a meal or to watch a movie together.”
“We also gift each other presents pretty often – I’ll buy something for her if I think she’ll like it, and whenever we’re out together, one of us will pay but we’ve never kept a running tab!” he added
While he wasn’t able to celebrate his birthday together with the actress this year, Dennis chuckled that he wasn’t upset in the least.
He quipped, “I remember the chocolate cake that she baked for me last year (while we were in New Zealand), it’s sweet but not overly so – it was delicious! I’m very lucky because at the time, she just started cooking and the first plate of scrambled eggs that she ever made was for me!”
