Stefanie Sun snubbed at Golden Melody Awards

To the shock of many, local singer Stefanie Sun fell short of a nomination in the Best Female Vocal Performance award category. Her album, A Dancing Van Gogh, was met with high acclaim for the strong vocals she demonstrated, with her title track of the same title topping iTunes charts in Taiwan, Hong Kong, Malaysia and Singapore when it was released.

The 39-year-old shared her feelings in a Facebook post later that night.

“Although A Dancing Van Gogh had been snubbed of an award nomination, it’s still very important to me. I worked long days and nights for it, and my hard work will not be discounted just because I did not get nominated. I support the achievements of other artistes, and I will continue to believe in what I think is good and beautiful,” she wrote.

According to Taiwanese record producer Eric Chen, who is part of the judging panel, Stefanie and Taiwanese singer A-Lin’s nominations were highly debated during the decision process, but Stefanie was eventually voted out by a small margin.

The nominees for Best Female Vocal Performance were eventually Lala Hsu, Faye (formerly from F.I.R.), A-Mei, Julia Peng and to everyone’s surprise, Amuyi Lu, who just released her first album, O_LOVE, last year, after stunning audiences with her powerful vocals on Chinese music program Sound of My Dream 2.
