Veteran Singapore actor Bai Yan passes away at 99

Veteran Singapore actor Bai Yan has passed away in the wee hours of the morning today (August 19) at the age of 99.

The thespian, who was born in Wuhan, China, joined the then Singapore Broadcasting Corporation in 1985 and acted in numerous dramas, including 1988’s We Are Family. He received the Special Achievement Award at the Star Awards in 1996 and retired from showbiz shortly after.

On May 5 this year, his friends from showbiz celebrated his 100th Chinese birthday, with over 100 cast and crew members who he worked with in the past in attendance. Among the actors who attended were Zoe Tay, Aileen Tan, Christopher Lee, Jin Yinji, Zheng Ge Ping, Hong Hui Fang, Chen Xiuhuan and Zhu Houren.
