31-year-old actress-entrepreneur Cheryl Wee and her husband, architect Roy Fong, welcomed their first child, a son, into the world today (April 26).

At about 8pm, the new mum shared a picture of herself on Instagram Stories, where she is seen lying in a hospital bed with a simple spread of sandwiches and fruit in front of her. Her newborn son, however, is nowhere to be seen (yet).

"[S]tarted off this morning.... and now our heart (sic) are filled with gratitude and love", she wrote, thanking the nurses at Thomson Medical's maternity ward for "being so helpful kind and patient".

On the morning of April 27, Cheryl finally shared a first brief glimpse (albeit a faceless one) at "Baby M" (our first clue of his name) lying snugly in his bassinet while she and Roy enjoy their first breakfast as parents.

Then, later that night, Roy finally shared their first complete family portrait (including a better look at Baby M's face) on his Instagram page, writing, "40 weeks and 1 day in your mummy's womb. 7 days of contraction. 13 hours of labour. A lifetime of love from your parents!!! Welcome to the world, my son!"

About a week later, Cheryl finally had the time and energy to respond to our questions on WhatsApp. She shared that Baby M was born in the afternoon weighing a healthy 3kg, and that he was delivered via natural birth with epidural.

“I always thought I’d go with a C-section because I’m so afraid of pain, but fate led us to Dr. Paul Tseng, who is very pro-natural birth. We found him via Google and didn’t know he was so popular and that he is actually my dad’s good friend’s brother! Since we are so confident and comfortable with him, we decided to trust his recommendation,” she shared.

Of course, Roy was with Cheryl the entire time, from when her water broke to staying overnight with her while she was in labour and until long after the delivery.

“He was really calm and patient,” she said. “My mum [beauty mogul Jean Yip] joked that he was steadier than my dad when I was going to be delivered! Roy prayed a lot while I was in the labour ward because I kept telling him I’m so scared of pain.”

Now that their son has finally arrived, how do the new parents feel? “Words can’t fully express how we feel here. Firstly, we are so thankful to God for this miracle. [Our son] is really a miracle and we are so contented and blessed. I know Roy is super happy and I’m just so happy seeing him happy.”

That said, she admitted that the fact that she’s now someone’s mother “hasn’t fully set in yet”. “But I feel it each time I feed him and every day, I feel this love and protection over him,” she said.

For instance, she recalled not being able to breastfeed her child on the second night because she was suffering from blistered nipples. However, she would insist that the nurses bring him to her after they were done feeding him instead of leaving him in the box.

“I felt that since he’s been in me for the past 40 weeks hearing my voice day and night, and now suddenly, if he’s alone in the box in the nursery, he must feel so alone and scared,” she said. “So I really wanted to be with him every three hours when he feeds.”

For months before the birth of her little boy, Cheryl peppered her social media feed with loads of stylish, editorial-worthy (and sometimes, they really were for editorial shoots) snaps of her and her growing belly.

But besides the glamorous shots, she was also candid about some of the struggles she faced during her pregnancy – including a “nightmare” of a first trimester and other ups and downs – in regular pregnancy journey vlogs. She also made us go “awww” with her super sweet stories of what Roy has been doing for her, such as cooking whatever she – or rather, their child – craved.

Read on for a timeline of highlights from Cheryl’s Insta-feed while she was a glowing – and quite busy! – mama-to-be.

On Cheryl’s 31st birthday, she shared that she doesn’t wish anything for herself, “but every blessing and wishes” to her then-unborn child. “That you’ll be delivered in due time, soon I hope, cos we are supposed to share the same bday today, that you’ll be safe, healthy, happy and delivered soon! (sic)”

About a week before she popped, Cheryl posted a preview of a vlog where she shares all the essential items she packed with her in her hospital bag, from mundane yet important documents like her marriage certificate to wellness boosters like tea to a pack of monopoly deal cards to keep her occupied during the occasional boring periods. This woman has it all thought out!

Cheryl brought up what she felt was the worst part of her pregnancy in a short clip: food aversion (even to her favourite dishes). She also brought up a point that many other mothers probably wondered as well: “I don’t know why it’s called morning sickness because technically, it’s all-day sickness.” The poor thing was vomiting “10 to 15 times a day”, which – unsurprisingly – was not fun at all.

At 34 weeks, Cheryl’s bump was starting to feel “increasingly heavy and tired”, but that didn’t mean she had to sacrifice style completely for the sake of comfort. In fact, wearing something comfortable “yet not looking like a whale” (as she put it) made her feel much better. Why have either/or when you can have both, right?

She may be beaming from ear to ear in this photo, but Cheryl was candid about having a “rough” week with “tummy cramps and a churning stomach” that were so severe, she believed her “poor baby must be wondering what’s all that grumbling noise” all around him.

This magazine shoot-worthy close-up of Cheryl’s 32-week-old bump came with a loving message to – and about – her unborn son: “you move most when you’re hungry. you’re a lot calmer than I am. your fav foods are cheese. sashimi (tho I can’t feed you with it) cantonese soup. claypot rice. you love black coffee. kopi o kosong. you’ve been really good and sleep with me through most nights. you enjoy swimming (sic)”.

Staying at home all day doing nothing while carrying a bun in the oven (which is what most of us would prefer to do, to be honest) was clearly never in Cheryl’s plans – the busy bee attended a screening of her film My Love Sinema to share her personal journey into the world of showbiz.

“I woke up not expecting any flowers or anything [because] I said let’s save money for the baby. Nonetheless waking up to a bouquet from the husband makes me so happy […] and he said [because] the flowers are for 2 so very worth it!”

Well, Cheryl, you weren’t seriously going to believe your husband was going to treat your first Valentine’s Day as a married couple and parents-to-be like any other regular day, right?

Cheryl and Roy’s gender reveal of their son was both simple yet over-the-top at the same time. Perhaps it’s because of the balloons and the fact that this was done for a local luxury mag?

Ah, this is it. Their very first public “we’re going to be parents!” announcement, done in an oh-so-subtle and super cute way (they are shown opening presents for a baby, and if those hints weren’t obvious enough the hashtag #weefongaBABY should definitely have given it away).
