Insta-buzz: a shattering week for friends of Aloysius Pang

It’s been a dark week for local showbiz. Since news of Aloysius Pang’s reservist accident on January 19 in New Zealand, there has been an outpour of love and support for the 28-year-old actor from his friends, fans, and fellow artistes on their respective social media accounts.

The messages began as hopeful well-wishes that he would recover and declarations that they would see him soon. Sadly, the night after the first update that he was “in a stable condition”, things took a turn for the worse, and more prayers and positive vibes were sent his way.

On January 23 at 8.45pm, Aloysius succumbed to his injuries and passed away at Waikato Hospital.

The endless tributes that have been popping up all over our feeds following his death show that, despite repeatedly calling himself a “loner” in the past, Aloysius was beloved by many and had a very special place in their hearts, whether they were close or not. We at Toggle also remember Aloysius the way many others have described him: polite, professional, humble, and just a very likeable young man.

Read on to see how some of Aloysius’s celebrity friends reacted on social media to the news of his accident and passing throughout the week...

Thank you for speaking to me when I was at my lowest a few years ago. My heart is so heavy but you know, I wish to see you in Heaven. You are a good son, friend, brother, person. After taking a bit of time to compile her thoughts and some old photos, Hui Fang reminisced about working with Aloysius in the past, starting from I Love My Home 15 years ago, all the way up to Good Luck, which she - and no one else - never, ever imagined would be their last drama together.

“I’ve always told you that you are the kind of son that every mother wants,” she said. “I keep asking God why He had to take you away so soon, and although my heart is full of doubts, I have to accept reality, my dear son and grandson, I will miss you forever.”

Although the actors only shared scenes briefly in one drama (You Can Be an Angel Too), Zoe remembered a time she did not have transport back to the TV station.

“You offered to drive me there even though it was not on the way for you, but you said that it was a good opportunity for us to chat... During our conversation, I thought you were very mature and I really liked you… I thought we would have the chance to work together again after I came back from Japan, but things happened too suddenly… R.I.P.”
