Insta-buzz: What the stars were up to this week

This past week’s feed seemed to be inundated with cute babies, heart-warming birthday celebrations and/or tributes, and cool overseas vacations (giving us a serious case of #FOMO, or fear of missing out). Read on for more!

Romeo Tan’s Euro-trip comes to an end

Before he flew back for the imaging session for his new drama Say Cheese, the actor was trekking around Europe, visiting countries such as the Czech Republic and Hungary. Of course, he’s been treating his Instagram followers to loads of #RomeoPhotologue shots, including one of Prague's iconic Charles Bridge at 7am in the morning (which explains why it’s not crawling with vendors and tourists like it usually would be later in the day).

"Parting is such sweet sorrow", he wrote on one of his pictures, presumably before getting on the flight home. That's precisely how we feel every time a vacation comes to an end.

Also giving us a serious case of wanderlust is Desmond, who was probably freezing his behind off (but still looking really good while doing so) in Iceland and Finland. Now if only all our holiday pics turned out as magazine editorial-like as his.

Yet another jetsetter racking up stamps in his passport is the 987FM DJ, who spent two weeks in England and Scotland. Earlier this week, he was lucky enough to witness his football team Manchester United beat Chelsea in a live match, before going on a historical tour to check out cool landmarks like Tower Bridge and Leeds Castle.

Why did it seem like everyone on our Instagram feed was in Europe last week? We kind of didn’t want this couple to leave though, because Jay was keeping us highly amused with all his cheeky captions and occasional comments on his wife’s Instagram.

Chen Xiu Huan’s daughter turns 18

Shalynn Tsai celebrated her milestone birthday on February 27 with her family, a lavish dinner and at least four cakes (yes, we tried to count them). “Thankew family for showering me with so much love and support, it definitely isn’t easy having to deal with a J2’s stress and occasional (slightly worrying) breakdowns (sic)”, read part of her long and touching tribute.

Xiu Huan also shared a video montage of lovely pictures (some recent, some from Shalynn’s childhood and babyhood) of the mother-daughter duo on her page and wrote, “It seems like yesterday I tucked you in at night and reading storybooks until you fell asleep in my arms. It felt as though you grew overnight into a beautiful young lady. I want to hold on to you and at the same time watch you fly high and free.”

Well, well, well, look who we have here. The actress returned to the Mediacorp studios earlier this week to film a special holographic opening footage (featuring the All-Time Favourite Artistes) that will be aired during this year’s Star Awards. Doesn’t she look great (and happy to be back)?

Three months after her successful first music showcase, the local singer held another performance at the Esplanade Outdoor Theatre on Thursday (Mar 1). Many fans and friends showed up to show their support, including fellow artistes Jayley Woo, Denise Camillia Tan and Michelle Wong. We believe it’s only a matter of time before she holds a ticketed gig at a much larger location. Jiayou!

The bunch also had a belated celebration for Carole Lin, who turned 45 on February 23. How nice to see everyone gathering like this! #squadgoals

Charlie Young’s twins turn 1

Can you believe it’s been almost a year since the Hong Kong actress’s sons were born? Last Tuesday (Feb 27), Gigi Leung posted a photo of an advanced birthday celebration for Ignatius and Aloysius, which was also attended by Valen Hsu, Angelica Lee and all their respective husbands and kids. Gigi couldn’t help but gush about how her daughter Sofia “immediately turns into a big sister” around her “four little brothers”, Charlie’s and Angelica’s twins. So cute.

Quan Yi Fong’s not-so-little-anymore girl became a serious contender for #daughteroftheyear when she specially wrote and dedicated a song to her mum on Yi Fong’s birthday, which the talented lass sang while playing the guitar. Unsurprisingly, Yi Fong called it “the most heart-warming birthday gift” – who wouldn’t be touched by this sweet gesture?

Jack Neo and Richie Koh thank supporters of 'Wonderful! Liang Xi Mei'

Local film Wonderful! Liang Xi Mei has been churning out some rather impressive box office results: it has earned S$1.6 million in Singapore and RM6.2 million (about S$2 million) in Malaysia so far.

To thank audiences for their support, director Jack Neo specially arranged a meet-and-greet session with about 400 cinemagoers at a Johor Bahru theatre with actor Richie Koh, whom many people were reportedly asking about, on Friday (Mar 2). It looks like Richie certainly gained a lot of new fans through this project!

George Young turns…9.5 years old?

Did you know that the actor is a leap year baby? Yup, he was born on February 29, which means he only gets to celebrate his birthday once every four years, making him technically 9.5 years old instead of 38. His wife Janet Hsieh’s tongue-in-cheek “wish” was written from their son Egan’s point of view, and read, “…because [my dad] is “special” and because today is NOT his birthday, my parents made me dress up and go out to dinner.”

Jayley Woo is struck down with a fever

The actress posted a dramatic Instagram Stories post of her sobbing about being sick and having to go see the doctor (supposedly because she is bad at swallowing pills). To make matters worse, she shared a brief glimpse at her medical certificate and wailed, “In my line of work, there isn’t such a thing as MC.” A couple of days later, she gave another update about being down with a sore throat.

Yikes. Take care of yourself, Jayley!

The up-and-coming starlet was also the target of a birthday surprise, except hers took place in a much less glamorous setting: her dorm room. She even wrote, “Had they come in 5 mins earlier I would’ve been in a turban”. Is it wrong that we kind of wish that were the case? Because that would be kind of hilarious.

Lee Jinglei shares sweet anecdote about daughter

Wang Leehom’s wife posted this heart-warming picture of her and their two girls, Jiali and Jiana, along with a cute story about something Jiali, the eldest, suddenly said to her one night. According to her caption, the three-year-old thanked Jinglei and Leehom for their daily five-minute bedtime cuddles and for taking care of them, and urged the couple to go to sleep earlier. Now isn’t that absolutely precious?

Linda Chung is expecting her second child

The Hong Kong actress dropped two bombshells in an Instagram post on Friday (Mar 2): she is currently pregnant with her second child, and she has decided not to renew her contract with TVB so she can focus on taking care of her family. However, she reassured fans that she will return to work - gotta earn that milk money! - after she gives birth, and it’s clear that she is parting with the TV station on a good note as she had plenty of things to be grateful for and lots of people to thank in her caption.

All the best, Linda!

Wednesday (Feb 28) marked the 30th anniversary of the very first Star Search talent competition, which saw Zoe crowned as the champion. To mark the occasion, Ah Jie shared a couple of old snapshots from the event, as well as a more recent one of herself, Aileen Tan and Chen Han Wei (who were also finalists) from last year’s Star Awards, where they all bagged trophies. Just look at how fresh-faced they were back then!

“This is probably the closest I’ll ever get to a tiger in my life”, wrote the model-actress alongside several envy-inducing pictures of her carrying furry striped baby big cats. Even her husband Tony got to get in on the action, and it looks like he had a rather naughty one to handle!

Well, is anyone surprised that Jeremy makes such a mischievous cat-dad? The actor shared a couple of amusing photos of he and his wife Jesseca Liu’s fur-kids Tigger and Crusso wearing costumes that make it look as though they are standing upright, along with cheeky captions written in the point of view of the felines. We guess we can’t blame the cats for having such unamused looks on their faces.
