The next Lunar New Year celebration at the Neo’s is set to be even more exciting than in previous years, as the family will officially be welcoming their next generation this year. Jack Neo’s only daughter, Ethel Neo, shared the good news that she is expecting a bundle of joy in May this year, and is expected to deliver in September or October.
Currently 23 weeks pregnant, Ethel, 27, held a gender reveal party last month with her loved ones in attendance, sharing that she would be having a baby boy. Jack also has three sons with his wife, Irene Kng.
The soon-to-be-grandfather shot his cameo for upcoming movie When Zombie Meets Ghost yesterday (July 20) at the MES Theatre, where he spoke to Toggle just before the cameras started to roll. Introducing his role as a contest judge (alongside Shaun Chen and Benjamin Heng), he shared more about his thoughts on welcoming a little one to the family again.
“Of course, I’m very nervous. The other day, when I saw my daughter walking into our house, I suddenly thought of my wife when she was pregnant all those years ago,” Jack quipped. “I wondered how time passed so quickly, because I still vividly remember when my wife was pregnant, and yet it’s my daughter’s turn in the blink of an eye. This feeling is really interesting.”

What has Jack been busy with?
As for whether a little boy running around the house will change anything in his career, the 58-year-old paused for a moment before sharing, “I don’t think so. I think it’ll be my wife who will be looking after (our grandson) more. It won’t be much of a difference for me. Moreover, I’m the granddad, and my daughter will have her own plans for the baby. Us old folks might not have much of a say – you never know.”
Gushing that he’s “really looking forward” to the moment he’ll meet his grandson for the first time, he described his feelings as “very different from when I was waiting for her to be born. Suddenly, my firstborn is expecting her firstborn!”
With the words ‘slowing down’ nowhere to be found in Jack’s dictionary, he also let on that he’s currently in the post-production phase for his upcoming movie, Killer Not Stupid, which was filmed in Taiwan and the movie is slated to debut in cinemas during Chinese New Year 2019. He hinted that there will be a lot of special effects, which he “hopes to complete soon”.

Does Shaun Chen have plans to have a third baby?
Also spotted on set was Shaun Chen, who we caught up with. After completing filming for Blessings 2 in Malaysia, the actor admitted that he’s been enjoying his time off before filming for Yin Cuo Yang Cha starts in September.
“My older daughter is two-and-a-half and I think this is the golden period for her. It is a very precious [chapter in her life], so I hope to be able to spend more time with her, and that’s what I’ve been doing for the past few months – being a full-time nanny!” he smiled.
With Nellie turning 3 in a couple of months, we asked Shaun if he has any intention of adding on to the family. He chuckled, “I want to too, but as of right now, I don’t think I’ll be doing so. For Nellie, we spent a lot of time with her, but for Neia, I wasn’t able to spend as much time as I would like with her (because I had to work), so I don’t think I can have another baby so easily.”
Nellie’s sibling rivalry is still going strong – the little girl tends to throw tantrums if she’s in a bad mood and sees her parents doting on her little sister – Shaun reckoned that it might also be tough for him to explain the presence of yet another sibling to the little girl.
“She enjoys playing with boys though. She goes to pre-school and she has a bunch of male friends whom she gets along with. We always tease her, calling them her boyfriends,” the father-of-two grinned. “But when they grow up, I’ll definitely take this whole boyfriend thing seriously. They’ll have to study hard first before thinking about dating.”

How is Nathan Hartono adapting to life as a zombie?
While we weren’t allowed to reveal what Nathan’s zombie makeup looks like in the movie, we were lucky enough to get a glimpse of the star in action yesterday. Speaking to us in an interview between makeup changes, the 26-year-old revealed that the biggest zombie rule that he has to adhere to is that his joints are supposed to stay rigid – which means that he often goes home feeling all achy and sore.
“We actually filmed a kiss scene earlier today. They wanted there to be more footage to work with, so we did that scene for 15…” Nathan shared. Cue reporters gasping, wondering if he and co-star Ferlyn G locked lips for 15 minutes. “No, I meant 15 seconds!” he clarified, much to the relief of everyone in the room. “If it was for 15 minutes, I don’t think we’d be able to last that long – we have to breathe too, you know.”
With production nearing the end (it is estimated to wrap in two weeks’ time before heading into post-production), Nathan said that he’s learned “so much from the project so far – there are so many experienced people on-set and this has an amazing experience for me through and through.”
Just to satisfy your curiosity, yes, the good-looker’s features are still visible despite the makeup, so you’ll have plenty of eye-candy to feast your eyes on. If you’re still curious to know what a zombified Nathan looks like, you’ll have to wait for next year when the movie hits the big screens.
