Goo Hara’s agency deny speculation of a suicide attempt

In short: On September 5, rumours of Goo Hara being hospitalised after a failed suicide attempt circulated online, which prompted her agency to quickly deny this and clarify that she was in hospital for a sleep disorder and indigestion.

In detail: Netizens started worrying about the former KARA member after unverified reports of her being hospitalised after a failed suicide attempt sprung up. However, her agency, Content Y, swiftly denied the rumours and issued a statement to clarify the situation.

She has since been discharged. Adding that her doctor asked her to take a break, the singer will not be taking on any new jobs for the time being.

EXO’s Chanyeol asks for fans to be more orderly at the airport

In short: Chanyeol posted an update on his Instagram, asking his fans to pay more attention to safety after he was unceremoniously mobbed at the airport.

In detail: It’s not everyday that a celebrity calls their fans out, so if it happens, you know that they’re being very serious about it. In Chanyeol’s post, he wrote, “To all the fans at the airport who were there to welcome me, I ask that you control yourselves. The airport is a place not just for us, but also a place for passengers, people waiting for their loved ones, children and more. If something had gone wrong today, someone’s toes instead of my slipper could have been injured instead.”

He continued with, “Although it was a situation where the people around me were shouting not to push and protecting me, there was little control over the entire situation. I’m thankful that nobody was hurt but because of what happened, I had to upload this post. I hope we can work together to avoid accidents that may happen in public places, such as airports. Thank you for always giving love to me, and I’ll always be a person who gives you love in return.”

His post was also accompanied with a photo of his ripped slipper.

ARMY unimpressed at politicians using BTS’ name to discuss new law over army exemptions

In short: Korean broadcasting station JTBC reported that politicians were debating on the issue of whether celebrities who represent South Korea internationally should be given a military exemption, and called it the BTS Law. However, the group’s agency, Big Hit Entertainment, was never present at the meeting held last month, which was attended by SM Entertainment, YG Entertainment, JYP Entertainment, FNC Entertainment and Jellyfish Entertainment. BTS’ fans, ARMY, were very unimpressed with BTS being pulled into the debate for no reason, and coordinated efforts to ask for a retraction and apology for the false reporting.

In detail: Lawmaker An Min Seok talked about the need to reform the current laws on military exemptions, and brought in BTS as an example of celebrities that could be considered for exemptions.

This fueled the fire, especially because military service is a very sensitive topic in South Korea. Serving in the army is required for all male citizens, and exemptions are usually far and few between, only awarded to outstanding sportsmen who win gold awards on international levels or a certain group of classical musicians and ballet dancers.

Big Hit Entertainment, which houses BTS, has never participated in such discussions and have not stated that they are seeking exemptions for the group, but ended up being pulled into the crossfire as netizens hotly debated about the issue. In the end, however, some Korean news outlets have since issued retractions and apologies.
